Odor from Rutland High Temp Silicone- 500 Degree

Hello all - I just replaced the vent setup on my Mini, and am getting a noticeable odor from what I think is the High Temp Silicone. It's definitely not pellet smoke, so I know I don't have a leak. Has anyone else experienced that, and how long did you have to burn before it subsided? The stove sat for a week without being fired up, so I know the Silicone had plenty of time to cure.

Details - Simpson Duravent Pellet Pro Vent. One SIliconed joint in the house at the stove adapter, then outside to a 'T" and up. After I mated the stove adapter, I wiped all the oozed silicone clean, and wrapped the joint a couple of time with 3M High Temp Aluminum tape. Also taped the joint at the other end of the stove adapter that mates to a 12" straight pipe through a thimble and out the wall.

At the same time I did replace the bolt on exhaust flange on the stove with a new factory one and supplied gasket.
 
I have my Pellet Vent Pro pipe on the inside so i have about 6 or 7 joints sealed with the same sealant you have. I fired up the stove almost right away to let the heat cure them and didn't notice any smell at all although it was a brand new stove so I got some smell from the paint. That might have masked any smell from the sealant. But when the paint smell was gone I didn't notice any other smells.
 
I use the same stuff. And like steveb i start the stove and it cured quickly with heat. I have never had any odor probs with rutland.

And I have it sealing every seem of my pipe.
 
I am having a very similar problem. Just installed pellet vent pro and I am getting a smell along the lines of burning plastic.

Can you take the new pipes apart and see what the connections look like? I have a brown/red sticky substance on them that is causing the smell. See my thread for pictures. https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/burning-plastic-smell.100689/

Interesting that someone has a similar problem, and at about the same time.

Rex - I won't be able to take things apart until over the weekend. The odor is so bad that the wife had me shut it down, which is probably a good idea until we get to the bottom of this. I saw your pictures. I have only 1 joint inside the house with the "O" ring where the adapter couples to the first section of pipe. I will check for the obvious stuff like Smoky suggested. Perhaps one of our cats somehow got a plastic toy inside the stove enclosure and it touching something.

I may shutdown the convection blower while troubleshooting because on my Mini the convection intake is inside the stove, and if there is a leak it sucks it right up and disperses it before you can see the source.

Did you happen to get the pipe through Dynamite Buys?

Sounds like it is the same smell, the whole house smelled like it.
 
After a week + of on and off burning, the smell is gone. Must have been the Duravent pipe oil/coating that was mentioned in the other thread, not the RTV.
