I am fairly new here and joined amid moderate crisis.. :-/ ..I was trying to figure out info on the "Surefire 101B" wood furnace I had found locally..I had an extra brand new stove to heat the other end of my house but when pricing Dura-vent etc..it was out of my budget as of now..My neighbor who is a hell of a guy has a deal with his brother where I am going to take down 1 huge oak and 4 or 5 moderate sized oaks on his property..he is paying me 500 bucks AND giving me the wood..Neighbor joe fronted me the money from his brother and we found this furnace

I am so very glad I bought it..after much inpection of my outdoor chimney and gutting out the old 6" thinble and putting a new 8" clay thimble through my cellar wall and new exhaust pipe and a barometric damper I cleaned the entire furnace and vacuumed out every nook and cranny..removed the cleanout plates for the secondary burn chambers and did the same etc etc etc..it was entirely disassembled

The casing on it cleaned up beautifully with very little work and a bottle of simple green and some old towels..inside and out..the blower fan oiled and cleaned..new filters..etc and all that good stuff

I fired it up last night and it performed beautifully..I am for now running it in the basement and letting it rise through a few floor vents..thermostat control..damper opens and closes..fan kicks in..limit switches performing..heat heat heat..damper closes..fire goes out and it rekindles upon the thermostats request..

In a few weeks I should have cash for vent pipe etc..I will be able to push heat throughout my house and where I live I have abundant wood available..I am golden..and I am in love with my big red Canadian furnace

when I get my Mac back together I will post some pics

500 bucks and this thing is basically new..stepped in it again

:)

...and I have the worlds best neighbor

And if I remember correctly, a buncha warm kids now.

Congrats!

Oh, that reminds me - maybe some members want to kick in and help you buy a few floor registers. Do you have a paypal account - if so, post it and who knows...maybe some $$ in our slush funds here.

correct..and while the full effect wont be realized until I run some ductwork..I have the potential to push the heat as far as I want..and thats awesome !!

Yeah, that's the plus side of some people who tire quickly of heavy wood burning - a LOT of used stuff in good condition!

also apparently correct

This furnace is in superb condition..honestly, it looks as if it is a new install unless you get up close..very little use. It's odd to wish for colder weather but I want to see this thing make the whole place cozy as compared to one end of the house being a sauna all the time. Crazy warm winter so far this year
