Hello

Having been helped by this forum to identify my stove, I've now read through the instruction manual..

Although it is a multi fuel stove, it specifically mentions:

Prohibited fuel : Homefire and any form of bituminous coal or petroleum based coke.

It does, however, say that smokeless fuel is allowed (e.g. coalite) - so can anyone tell me whether "Homefire Smokeless Fuel" and equivalents are ok to use in the stove? And if so, what is it actually telling me I shouldn't be using? The smokeless fuel (coal-like stuff) that I've got locally doesn't mention anywhere that it is petroleum based and it all says suitable for use in multi fuel stoves.

Guidance for the ignorant appreciated!

Hello again Jason,
you can burn most smokeless fuels on a multifuel stove, just avoid ordinary housecoal, anthracite is fine as naturally smokeless.
I suggest you find a local coal merchant and seek their advice and try different types till you find one that suits.
Buying odd bags from fuel stations/supermarkets etc is I believe expensive, better to get a decent local supplier.
I dont burn the black stuff by the way, just have picked these things up whilst surfing the net.

Hope this helps.

Billy.

Thanks Billy. It was a bit confusing as it seems that Homefire Smokeless is quite popular - although reading their website they do say it is a mix of anthracite and bituminous coal so I didn't know if this made it out of bounds.

Ideally I don't want to be burning the black stuff either! Just my poor wood supplies forced my hand (I only moved into new place the week before Christmas so not much time to sort out fuel stocks!) For the sake of low-maintenance fires whilst trying to unpack boxes, the smokeless fuel has just given me a lot less hassle so would be a real pain if I had to stop using it!

I fully understand Jason, we burn what we've got.
If it keeps our families warm and the gas bills down thats got to be a good thing. ;)
I am sure I have seen homefire in our local supermarket and seem to recall it says suitable for stoves on the label.

Billy.
