Ive been holding out for a sale on the Englander NC30 but just found a used Napoleon 1402 pedestal stove for $600. Is this a good price? Which is the better stove?

I would think by the size alone that hands down the Englander would be the best choice, 2.25 vs 3.5
Hopefully you mean a Nap 1400. Or somebody has put a pedestal on an insert. Naps are good stoves and so are the Englanders.

I have the 30 and i love it. That thing puts out lots of heat. Not familiar with your other choice but all i can say is that the 30 is a great stove for the price.

If the Nap is equivelent in size and heating capicity as well as in good shape I think you have your answer. Even if you wait until March for the E-30 you will pay more than 600 for it. Albeit there will be a warrantee and bla, bla, bla if that stuff is important to you. Nap will heat your house this winter - 30 on sale wont until next fall.
Now if you already have a stove and are good for this year with your heart set on the E-30 I will say my experience has been great. Actually I would be comfortable in saying all the rave here on this site about the 30 is understated from my experience. Solid built, looks great and is easy, easy to use without issue. I get great heat, long burns and have yet to have any overfire or run away stove issues.
Not sure what retail is on a Nap but I am guessing it is greater than a 30 on sale so you also have the option of snatching up the available stove and selling it if you want the 30 later. Although this adds a ton(literally) of heavy lifting.

Thanks all for the responses. I looked at the specs and didnt notice the big difference in the firebox size. My home is about 1450 sq feet with an unfinished basement. the stove is in the basement. My current setup is an old Alaska Kodiak and it does a pretty decent job for me, just looking to upgrade. I think Ill hold off for the 30 and hope they go on sale again.
They will likely go on sale, maybe as soon as late next month, but be ready to act quickly when they do. The sale is usually just to clear out remaining inventory.
My state is offering a rebate on EPA stoves but it's first come first serve. If only these were on sale now and I could get it almost for free
