Once, today. 67 or so bags into winter. Pic is 4" vent outlet. Clean stove good, LBT, linteater (sweet), blow some more. Back in business. What a great system and thanks for all these cool tricks, once again.

Also, I was able to get a visual on my comb fan, pre blow, and it was prestine.

I did mine today, after cleaning the stove and vent pipe well. I got a pretty decent cloud of ash with the LBT. There was a lot of ash in the vent that the brush got out. I run the brush in and out with the combustion blower running, so it blows the loosened ash out as I go. Note to self: keep face away from vent while brushing!
The cloud from the LBT proves to me that there was ash in places I couldn't get to with even a good cleaning.

Do all you that need to clean your venting more then once a year, empty your tee or 90* monthly? This is where you are going to find a lot of blockage.

I have yet to clean my venting, and have checked at both ends, and really don't have that much build up. I do vacuum my 90* from inside the stove every monthly cleaning, as this is where the ash tends to build up in the venting.

If you have a lot of horizontals, I can understand needing to clean more often.

I have no tee, just a straight out-through-the-wall vent that still accumulates some ash. This last batch of MWP pellets I burned really loaded the stove and the vent up.

Impressive "smoke" show! The most mine puts out is at the end of your vid.

From my severely limited experience Tim, (reading and actual hands on) LBT to be used after every ton; twice yearly; maybe more depending on how your system works. This is not mentioning that the name brand and type of the pellets you're burning will effect your cleaning schedule. Your gut feeling will probably be your best judgement.

Some do it monthly, some by the ton, some 2 ton, and some just do LBT yearly for Spring Cleaning.

Smoke shows video above is yearly. After around 4 ton (give or take) through his AE.

In earlier years, I cleaned much more often, stove and vent. As I run the stove more, I have gone much longer between cleanings. Much longer.

It being your 1st year, you will likely clean the stove more than you need to (Not a bad thing), but as time goes on and your friendship gets stronger with your stove :))) you will learn to let it go longer.

Everyones set up is different and horizontal runs build up more than vertical. So its best to check it often (monthly or per ton, whichever comes first) your 1st year and then build a schedule on vent cleaning from there.

LBT yearly.

The glass when I can't see the fire anymore, and vacuum as long as the door is open to clean the glass. ;)

Just did mine today after 1 ton. Cleaned the stove from inside, did the leaf blower once, then ran the vent brush through and then leaf blower again.

Not at all surprised that I got a lot more ash than last year at 1 ton. Last year I was burning Barefoot, Turman and Okie for the first ton and this year I'm watching the budget and the 1st ton was Greene Team and Powerhouse. Got a lot more ash. I always clean out the ash vac at the same time and it was much more full than usual. In fact I usually dump the ash vac into an old pellet bag and this year I have the same amount of ash at 1 ton as last year after 2.5 ton.Just further proof that the super premium brands yield less ash, FWIW.

I did my "Spring" cleaning late this year, I think it was around the end of October. So I guess I would say once. I have only burned 43 bags so it is getting close to doing it again. Now if the damn snow would melt so I could get on the roof I would have it made. My roof is pretty steep so I don't like getting on it when it slippery, to steep to just walk up. Its supposed to be in the mid 40's this week so lets see what happens!
