Room Corner Log

Kind of like a lumberjack stripper pole?
I like it.
A friend of mine has 2 cedar posts in his kitchen. They came from his back yard and look great. They run from the kitchen island to the ceiling.

No bark, shouldn't be too hard to find a tree. Just need to find someone with a saw mill to cut the back of the log. That would look really good.

I have a square version of that. It's pine boards stained dark. The room had some supports in the corners that where covered with drywall. I didn't like that so made these to cover the corners.

Lumberjack stripper pole!?! Quick! Get me the mind bleach!

Personally I'd look for white pine....from a tree that has grown in amongst lots of other pines so it grows straight and tall without that many branches. It peels easily, looks nice and the branches come in whorls that happen more or less evenly spaced up the length of the log. And you have the added benefit that it doesn't weigh as much as a hardwood log. I've got quite a few smaller examples of such trees on my new property - already dead - and just waiting for me to haul them out - I'm thinking they'll serve as posts for a rustic wood storage shed sometime in the future

another great choice would be eastern red cedar. Bit tougher to peel but the naked logs have a great look to them.

Well, no I don't.

But I like the idea, and I've been tossing around similar ideas for my stove room for a few years now. We bought our house about 5 years ago and renovated practically every inch of the place with the exception for the room where the stove is. It has a 10 ft ceiling and I've been thinking of putting rough cut beams at the top of the walls and across the ceiling, with rough cut posts in the corners that look like they are supporting those beams. I've also toyed with the idea of using log posts in the corners, but I didn't think logs would go with the rough cut beams as well as the posts would.

When the stove is pumping out heat it does get very warm in there and I often find myself shedding cloths, perhaps if I do decide to use logs posts in the corners I'll leave some branches on the logs to hang the cloths on..... Hmmm?, Pictures may be forthcoming...

I actually do have part of a small tree on the second floor of my garage . . . a 4 inch (diameter) or so black cherry that I bolted on to a rafter . . . my wife thought the cats might like to use it as a climbing tree since they do not go outdoors. Maybe I can suggest the lumber jill stripper pole to her . . .
