I bought a ton of Old Dominions at the blue box for $300.00. Not that impressed with them, but nothing else to compare them to. What do you burn in Western North Carolina?

I bought a ton of Old Dominions at TSC for 219, I think they burn pretty decent and no where near as many fines as the Lignetics .Not sure about NC.

The ODs seem to put out a lot of ash but I am a new pellet burner. They do burn hot and the harman has gone through 20 bags or so.

Turman Pellets are made in Galax, VA which is about 2 hours north of Charlotte. Being this close, you are sure to have a dealer in your vicinity. They are a fairly decent pellet for the money (Pssst. hey...actually they are really awesone, but I whisper this to you only so no one else can hear me...I can't get enough of them up here in CT as it is...so just buy what you need, OK?)
Yeah, give them a shot....They're all right.
Here is their contact info so you can find a dealer. http://www.turmanhardwoodflooring.com/turman-hardwood-pellets.php

Thanks for the info ctpellet. My dealer here has country boys for 340 a ton now. My next ton will be them. Sometimes you just get caught up in trying to save a buck. When you drop $12,000 on stoves and installs, i guess i could afford some decent pellets (or maybe i spent it all). On pellets i guess you get what you pay for.
Good news is the dealer does a spring buy for 240 a ton to stock up. I can handle that price!

I'm in NC. There is a company in the mountains called Carolina Pellets. You are probably close enough to get a delivery from them. I'm in the piedmont so I've never used them but am curious. I go to TS, they have Greenway, and there is a hearth and fireplace store in Cary, NC that I buy my Turmans from.

I've burned Carolina Wood Pellets in the past and they are sheeeet, IMHO. Pellet lengths from dust to 3" long! A lot of ash and with that kind of length variation, drop chute bridging, inconsistent feed and heat. The company never even bothered to respond to my alerts about quality. Run like hell away from them.

I burn Greenways, which are made in Central Tenn. Great consistent pellet with nice short length for good feed and heat.

I looked into Carolina pellets, but the mill is at least an hour and 15 minutes from me. Looks like they are in Franklin. I don't even know if mills sell direct and I can only haul 3 tons at a time, so the price would have to be a screamer for it to be worth it.

Heritage Lumber Co. in Burnsville....Turmans....$5.00/bag (based on 1 ton purchase), otherwise $5.49/bag.

Last week I bought a ton of the Country Boy White Lightnings from the dealer that installed the stove. They were $350.00 for a ton. Yeah, that's $7.00 a bag, but I do realize it is the middle of burning season and pellet deals are hard to come by. I probably would have gotten those Turmans up in Burnsville, though. Wright's does a spring buy on pellets in April for $240 a ton. They had the Country Boys and will be getting some Hamers in soon. I am really pleased with the County Boys, the heat output is so much better than the Old Dominions. I went through a ton of the ODs and about 5 bags of the Country Boys and 6 of the AWFs, so today's project is pulling out the stove and giving it a good cleaning.

Griz - I burned a little over half a ton of the ODs too. They were my first burn and I was not impressed. The lack of impression was reinforced once I started with the Turmans.

Thanks for the heads-up on the spring buy and the Hamers comming to Wrights. I'll be on the look-out.

Did a full cleaning on the accentra today. The country boy pellets burn even hotter now! Now to figure out what to do with those last 5 bags of ODs. I might just keep them around to soak up oil spills in the garage.

I'm burning "Country Boy" this year and I love them. Here in Tennessee I have a choice of Greenways,Henry County, and Country Boy.The Country Boys are the hottest of the three.I also love the Henry Countys not as hot as the CB'S but absolutely no dust when you pour a bag into the hopper, plus they are only $160.00 per ton on early bird special...
Anybody know if they sell Country Boys direct at the plant? They are about a 100 miles from me...
