I have an insulated basement area about 600 square feet, thinking about either a Morso 3440 or 7110. My family spend a lot of time down there (play room/tv room). Since we will have baseboard down there, we will be firing the stove mostly on weekends. Any experience with these stoves in this kind of area? Other ideas?
Thanks

Is the goal only to heat the basement? What is the normal ambient down there? The reason I ask is to understand how quickly you will want to raise the temperature of the area.

Of the two Morsoes, the 7110 would be my preference for the larger log size. The 2110 would also be a good choice. It's a nice stove that takes an 18" split.

Do you have other wood burning units in the house? I've looked at a lot of Morsos. Great looking units, but clearly made for the european smaller home market. Conventionally sized wood just doesn't work well with these units. Units are becoming more modern looking every year and accommodate 16+ inch splits without the premium pricing of Morsos. Regency has some nice looking freestanding stoves that are pretty modern and would heat 600 sq ft easily. The non insert Alterra 1200 or 2400 would work are a pretty nice looking (that's just off the top of my head...plenty of others out there too). I have the alterra insert and keep 1000sq ft at 70 degrees with a terrible floor layout. I imagine a free standing one with the same firebox would be perfect for that size.

I will have the Hearthstone Manchester on main level. In the basement we are just looking to take the pressure off baseboard mainly ( so it won't run). I am leaning Morso 2110 now due to it's larger log size, just not sure if it will blow us away down there. Will the 2110 put out more heat? The 2110 and 7110 look almost the same - the pics in the brochures can be misleading.

Went and bought a Morso 2110 today after seeing it. It looks like a great size for my 600-700 sq' basement. I know looks aren't everything, but it is a great looking stove, plus it will take an 18" log. I wish I could have got the same looking 3610 for the main floor, but it didn't come in a right side door - only left - right where my hearth's chimney stone face is, oh well. For the 2110 size, it is heavy at almost 300 lbs., 30-40 lbs heavier than the Jotul F3.

The 2110 will work fine. Just burn a half load of wood at a time. If it starts getting warm, let the fire die out. Or put a fan on the floor at the top of the basement stairs, pointed downstairs. Run it on low and let that 2110 help heat upstairs. At the top of the basement doorway you will feel the hot air coming up.

PS: How is that new Manchester working out for you?

Manchester is not in yet, will be delivered probably next week. Looking forward to firing it up while house is under construction. Thanks for the info. I'll update on the manchester when I get running it.
