Have a rare Fisher to restore. Having an  "unknown" Fisher XL twice now, its obviously a known Fisher Stove ;-) . The newest gem in the barn I have never had the privilege to own and restore. Measuring 29 1/2' about on the top deck yet having grandma bear doors. Pics soon to be up. Has steel scrolled legs...looks so cool. Another unique addition is a beautiful double doored Fisher with a bear sticker on the back with some writting. :bug: . Both stoves have stll have ul label tags on back, the rare grandpa with grandma doors has neat tag I havent seen in a long time.

New addition to my stove refinishing room. Neat Grandma Bear IV. I.C.B.O tag northwest testing labs. Sweet front draft springs on slides:). I like how the front inside plate is closed off, metal fits tight just inside stove so ash doesnt fill like earlier generation grandma, helps air as well on glass doors grandma4.6.jpg . Will find new home in Northern California soon.grandma test tag.jpg

So where are you from? Show us some in progress pics. I've got a grandpa soaking in diesel fuel awaiting it's turn under the wire wheel. There's not a lot of restoration advice out there specific to fishers.

From Napa/Sonoma Valley Ca. Lets pull Grandpa outa the diesel, soak him in some moonshine. Moonshine will help ease the sting of the sandblaster. Hit that stove with 30 mesh with medium pressure. Might even take a gallon of acetone to purge possible diesel residue. Highbeam my laptop has millions of resto pics, its up north presently. Here on Hearth look on the Everything Fisher pages. Lots of us have pics and sound advice. There is a know alot (thinks he's a know it all lol), take with grain of salt. Wire wheeling isnt for restorations, or pb blaster...never sieze ect. Ide sandblast the stove, take it to a shop if need be, then you will have a clean stove body ready for stove bright either straight paint, or they have a superior primer too!! If it has pitting, hit it with the primer over and over to get a high build, then sand with 200 grit cross cut, pits will practically be gone :). If ya need anything, just holler. And do check everything fisher here on hearth.

Thanks for the advice, I read on here about cleaning to bare metal in sections and then following up with fuel oil to prevent rust flash until the final cleaning with mineral spirits. I do not intend to blast the stove, so I'll need to do the best I can with regular shop methods. Will the wire wheel damage the plate?

Have a new, never ever fired Fisher Stoves Grandma Bear III==c . Have original spark screen with factory Fisher part number on back. Box of original bricks was with stove as well:). Approx. 3"x5" Fisher booklet was nice to get too. Pics up here soon. May list on eBay for folks to see and read, just a rare neat find!!! Not everything I list on eBay is priced to sell, is fun to list giving great pictures and description for stove sellers, collectors and such;). Been great year selling Fishers and Lopi's all over Northern California mountains, just amazes me the niche for my stoves, some weeks I've loaded 4 on the back of my truck at one time to go to new homes. Again, pics of NOS New Grandma Bear up soon.

Hmmm. Only Fisher I have ever seen with a CTC and creosote warning sticker on the ash lip. What year did they start doing that?

.

I've seen them on some along with the red "Hot when in operation" tag.

This first gen mama bear is one of the sweetest looking cantilevered top stoves Iv'e seen. Gardena did excellent on nickel clad. Stove is perfect, no warping on body, welds look good. Early stoves usually have tabs for bricks decayed or missing from years of service, this one everything inside looked ok, amazing bricks were original too, lots cracked...but still there:)

Heres a Fisher Grandpa Bear nickel doors, rear flue. This is a great example of a California Fisher, not much moisture or humidity as back east, most stoves are not pitted or rusty. Original bricks were not cracked or broken. Stove was bought new by Michael Hossack, was lead drummer for the Doobie Bros., neat history with this one;). Theres one more just like this one upstairs, owners are keeping it for now. Does'nt get much nicer than this....grandpa box1.jpggrandpa box2.jpggrandpa box3.jpggrandpa box.jpg

Here's the inside of a stored away, new old stock Fisher Grandma Bear III. I have owned 4 new, never fired Fishers to date, another NOS stove Ive owned and sold is the XL on the First page of everything Fisher here on Hearth, unlike the XL that had scale and some rust coloration, this Fisher is near perfect. Notice the keel marks on metal wall in one pic, just cool stuff to the Fisher enthusiast==cinside sweet.jpgView attachment 90394View attachment 90392inside2.jpginside4.jpg

Here is my first attempt at refinishing a Fisher Grandma. I know it's not the original look, but I thought it added a little character. Stove Bright is a great product!
