yes, its ironic. When i first started hanging out here i was in a very closed industry inviroment. I have been in the same hearth shop for a long time, with no real outside influeneces. You get kind of in a educational rut that way. I was sure i was right on some things, and thought that our way was the only way. What this forum has taught me that there are many ways to skin a <insert most hated animal here>. Some of the issues like draft, outside air, wood type, etc, have no wrong or right answer. Every situation is unique and very rarley is there a blanket answer to any given problem. This forum has helped me in my profession immensly.

There are some people that will not post or post as often because they are afraid for the spelling cops.
No one should be afraid to post. Other than poking a bit of fun or asking what a person meant, I think this is a pretty laid-back board for spelling. That said, it really does help to put the extra effort into getting the thread title spelling correct. It really helps facilitate future searches.
I've learned a whole lot from posts on this board, bad spelling and all. Anyone who has pounded nails all day and then has tried to type (with maybe a brew or two) knows that one's hands become hamhocks and typos are going to happen. The fact that Elk provides some long posts after a hard day's work is pretty impressive. I'd probably just give up.

I have learned a lot here and am greatful to everyone for the information they share, regardless of how well it's written or spelled.

MSG, you are so right. That's been my position all along as a local stove dealer. But, ya know, it seems there are more and more folks who insist that I give them the answer. I am getting better at "suggesting" the solution is "this". Too many people cannot make up their own mind and want help with the decision making. Not here, of course. But in my BAM job.

Spelling is not as important as content, period. One of my closest friends is a medical doctor. A very, very smart man, but can't spell to save his life. I'm constantly teasing him about his spelling, but more poking fun than trying to get on his nerves. I think the same thing goes on here, no harm in poking a little fun... no one is being graded on what they write.

Rod, i dont know about you, but i squeeze hearth.com in my schedule this time of year. I rarley make posts that are more then a paragraph, and i also dont wast time proofing for spelling. I glance at my statement and if it seems ok then i hit the send button. I figure, if someone wants to correct my spelling, then they cant correct my answer. I think the answer trumps the speller.

Can anyone fill me in What recently happened I was painting rooms watching football this weekend and all of a sudden
I feel I missed something. I do not read all threads only the ones that interest me.
Did some spelling cops drum someone out of here? If you don't feel it is worthy to post, PM me what going on or went on.
As much time as I spend here I can't imagine I missed something Was it in the ash can which I rarily visit?

As long as this is being discussed, and I am just saying this in general NOT to any one person or persons here, I never have nor will I criticize your spelling. That said, you're driving me crazy with the incorrect usage of your/you're. Same applies to their/there/they're. Perhaps this will help those that care -
"your" is possessive as in your soapstone wood stove is beautiful.
"you're" is a contraction for "you are" as in you are correct, the soapstone wood stove is beautiful.
"their" is possessive as in their wood pile is stacked perfectly.
"there" denotes location or position as in the wood pile is over there by the wood shed.
"they're" is a contraction as in they are going to use the wood stove tonight.
I think a lot of people just don't know the difference, I see this a lot on the internet but also in work. I wish I knew when and why to use whom vs who, somewhere along the line I missed that in school! I have looked it up but it's more complicated than the contraction vs possession concept.
The easiest way to know which word to use is to determine if you are referring to possession then the word would be your or their. Hey, I don't see anyone talking about their would pile!

I know that was discussed in English class, But like many guys , We were checking out the Mini skirts instead of paying attention.
I did not have the best English teachers. I used that Class to do my Math homework. Never paid too much attention, now I wish I had.

There should be bigger things to worry about then you getting irriated when other people dont use the proper english. No offense, but it seems trivial, expecialy in a forum dedicated to hearth products.

yeah it is trival, i said what i wanted and pointed stated i was directing the comments at no person. i even added a
