With all the talk about clearences from combustables, I am puzzled why they put wood handles/ Knobs on wood stoves. There 4" away from stove glass and cast/ steel. Are they treated and non flammable?

When my installer went over the stove operation with me he told me it served as an overfire detector. If you singe the wood handle then you're burnin' yer stove too hot. I thought he was kidding at first but he was dead serious.

HeHe...interesting..It makes sense...but seems odd..

I've pegged the stovetop thermo at 900* once...could still touch the wood handle with a bare hand.

You mean under the trivet thermometer hitting 900° !?

That puts it to test for sure..Thats Hot..I was looking at the stove..in a trance and it occured to me about the wood handle. I looked at the Hamptoni300 Big wood handle. My old lopi freedom was the spring handle i think. Thanks for the replies.

Hey fist our handles are below the heat source and by the air intake so they
stay cool.

When I bought my Summit, I asked about the wood handle also. I wondered about the heat, and if it would dry out and crack over time. Shop owner said the handle was easily replaced, but that they had never had to replace one. After over a year of use I can also tell you that it usually does not even get warm to the touch. But...grab the steel part just above the wood handle in the dark, and YOUCH!

Willhound, I figured that one out real quick. You'll probably do it once, but ya probably won't do it twice.
