As this cold spell in New England finally comes to a close, I am happy that I found this site prior to purchasing a pellet stove. Thanks to the advice I got here, I bought a stove that was rated for more square feet than I am heating. I also knew enough to have the OAK installed despite my dealer's insistence that I didn't need one. My house has been warm and cozy over the last week without turning on the electric heat. I'm hoping for even colder temperatures because I haven't had to run the stove on its highest setting yet.

Thank you to the contributors to this forum!

Same here. Glad I spend the extra money to get a P68. She was working at max for a few days but manage to keep up quite well. Two mornings the thermostat was 3 degrees below the normal 72 that I keep it. I am buring MWP so I am very happy with that. Didn't even think of using the propane!!!!!

A bit more is way better than not enough in the cold! Now if we could get some of these stove dealers in on this trick, There would be less calls on SMW's answering machine! ;)

Go big and be happy!

Insert oak pics?

Spent the extra money on my P61a and never looked back in this cold spell. The stove exceeded all my expectations. Seeing the difference between the 61a and burning oil is night and day.

When I was looking at stoves in 2007-2008, I thought all I needed was a P61 or maybe even less (boy was I wrong). Home and Hearth in Hampton Falls advised against that and suggested the P68.

Glad the big guy is in the basement !

My p61 didn't have any problems with this weather either. Glad we got that instead of the p43.

Well as I always say, "if it's worth doin, it's worth over doin". I have a 40000 BTU vista flame 100 insert for my 912sf ranch. Heats the whole place on level 1 or 2 of 5. Glad to hear you weren't left in the cold.
