Hehehe, I wish I'd never seen that formula for weight. Now I know why I'm sick of the 4+foot Oak trees. Nice score there Ray, just keep at it a little at a time. You'll not regret it when it's keeping you warm in 0 degree weather. As far as a saw, I'd go 90cc for 24" and up Oak.:) A C

90CC?? OMG you're talking a $1000.00+ saw here! I am thinking of upgrading but would like to keep the cost in the $300.00 range..

Getting more and more every week. This was a huge maple I think. I don't know my trees yet

That's awesome Brandon, you're on your way! Now you gotta split and stack that wood!

I was just kidding there Ray==c , but in all seriousness, if you're gonna scrounge on a regular basis you may want to consider a bit more saw than $ 300.00 will buy new. You'll want to be in the 60cc range, & keep the 023 for limbing & light work. A nice used 036 or MS 360 would fit the bill very nicely & keep you in or near budget. You'll be surprised that the fatigue factor isn't as bad as you would think because you don't have to sling the bigger saw for nearly as long to cut up those trunks. Also a pro grade saw has much better anti vibe which also helps minimize fatigue. Just some thoughts. A C

Nice. Red oak solid to the stump. Almost always full of carpenter ants here.
Nice big rounds with no branches or crotches I find fun to split with a wedge or two and a maul.

Hi Bill.. Yes I was surprised there was very little C-ant damage to these trees! Too bad the power company chipped up all the branches as I suspect some good wood went through the chipper..

Ray

I will take anyone's oak branches
I suspect some good sized branches got chipped up based on what was left behind! Bet I could have filled my truck one more time or more with the limbs alone!
