I JUST GOT ONE AND THE RAM STOPS AT ABOUT 4" SHORT TO THE WEDGE.IS THIS SUPPOSED T BE THAT WAY? IF SO IT SUCKS AS I HAVE TO USE A SPACER ON MOST PINE AND ON SOME OTHER WOOD.YESTERDAY BECAUSE THEY USE A 2 PRONG ACTIVATION ONE HAND FOR THE MOTOR AND THE OTHER FOR THE RAM. THIS CAUSES YOU TO BE OVER THE LOG AS IT SPLITS AND YESTERDAY THE SPACER POPPED OUT AT TREMENOUS SPEED AND KNOCKED ME DOWN WHEN IT HIT ME CHIN .IS THERE A WAY TO ADJUST IT,THANKS RIP

Did you open the tank vent?

(Others with more experience will be along to help too.)

And PLEASE turn your Caps Lock off! ;)

NO INSTRUCTIONS SO I JUST PLUGGED IT IN I AM 65 AND ONLY HAVE 1 EYE.WHO EVER THE IDIOT IS THAT DECIDED CAPS MEANS YOUR SHOUTING CAN POUND SALT THANKS FOR THE INFO ILL SEE IF I CAN GOOGLE TANK VENT

Yes, that's how they work. You should not need a spacer, unless your trying to split a round that is only 4" long???

All caps can be difficult for some to read, too.
All caps is also a literary device used for centuries to denote shouting.
Anyway ....

I have a 5 ton and the button over the motor will actually latch on with a strong push.
Some don't and someone here made foot operated pedals for theirs. Pretty slick.

I've taken to holding the log being split with one hand or holding another split over it because I've had a couple flyers. Haven;t had one come up at me yet, but easy to see the possibility of it happening.

First thing I broke on mine was the ram control handle. They tip over too easy while transporting. My property doesn't have too many nice flat spots.

Mine has a couple of inches of free space at the end , too. I'd have to measure but pretty sure it's more like 2 inches.

Why don't you just increase the font size so you can see the letters better?

What if you placed a piece of 4 x 4 on the push side of the splitter to take up some of the slack?

I have my ram return lever thing tied down with a bungey cord. I only need to push the button to split, then I just lift the lever to retract the ram. Then the bungey pulls the lever back down to splitting position when I let go of it. Seems to me having to use both hands on the splitter controls is more dangerous than having one hand on the button & the other holding the split in place.

My ram doesn't go all the way to the wedge, but it gets closer than 4". Is your oil at the correct level?

Sorry, but all caps does imply shouting - but the bigger thing is it is also harder to read. For my eyes anyway.

My Pow'RKraft 7-ton electric splitter stops about 4" from the end (I've never measured). I've split many cords of oak, hickory, locust, and others with no problem. The few rounds that won't split either go into the "ugly" pile or I split by hand. The instructions specifically tell you never to use a spacer, as it is likely to pop out and cause injury (as you've noticed). If you don't have the instruction manual, Google the brand name of your splitter and you'll find the manual online. (If you don't open the tank vent before splitting, you'll blow the seals. If you don't close it after splitting, your hydraulic fluid will leak out.)

For the record, Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press in Europe (China had it 400 years earlier) was the first to use capital letters to indicate shouting. He was hard of hearing, so using the capital letters allowed him to hear what he was reading more clearly. Even as a child, however, he never showed much interest in pounding salt. ==c

It is common for the little electrics to not travel the full length.
1.) Check fluid level
2.) make sure breather cap is open
3.) Check machine for level (many have reported operating problems with this).

Yes, BUT it will still stop 4" from the end as almost ALL splitter do. The real question is, why is that a problem, what are you splitting?

If he has gnarly, knotty pine like some of mine it is tempting to get the ram to go further when you still can't get the splits to separate rather than try to tear them apart by hand or with a lever when by hand won't do it.
I just throw them in the stack and hope with some seasoning time and age they'll pop apart easier later.
I don't think it works, but it's a convenient rationalization while trying to get the splitting done. :)

I keep the wedge end with the wing-nut vent up above the motor end just a little.
Read that was a good practice either in the manual or advice someplace.

I just flip the log around when that happends, and position splitting wedge right in line as best I can with the first split made. That almost always works to finish it off.

By the way, [said in an Australian accent] "That's no splitter, THIS is a splitter!"

Forget the house, I live in a pretty woodsy area, I bet I could not get some of those down my STREET!

You know whats amazing about that thing, the little splinters hanging off the "splits", are what I would call LARGE splits!

Yup electrics that I know of do not go all the way due to a shorter ram but it usually isn't much of a problem on oak and other hardwoods that split easily..

i HAVE A 5-TON hOMELITE WHICH STOPS AT ABOUT 4 INCHES FROM THE BLADE. oN THE RARE PIECE THAT DOESN'T POP BEFORE THE END OF TRAVEL, i JUST REVERSE THE PIECE AND TRY TO LINE UP THE SPLIT WITH THE BLADE.
