JACKPOT! Thanks ewdudley. These four threads were a goldmine ;)
What's the deal with oxy pex? Do you know?
I'm wondering if that's just for in my concrete slab or should I be using it in the staple-up too?

W.Y.

Oxy pex should be used whenever the pex is part of a pressurized closed heating system. It prevents oxygen from permeating through the pipe into the water - which then could lead to corrosion issues in the system.

I have pex stapled to the bottom of my sub floor with the same foil directing the radiant. Its great. The foil does an awesome job of redirecting the heat. It used to be 60 degrees in the first floor (what the thermostat was set for) and more than 70 in the basement. Note my basement is cool and the response time from adjusting the t stat to it catching up has gone from hours to 20 minutes out so.

Electricity used to be cheap here in the central Kootenay. This is south eastern B.C. Mountain country. We've got a 900 sq. ft. home with hydronic infloor downstairs. We had to shut it down this year because its getting too pricey to run. Looking to add lines to heat the first floor and dom. water and buy the right wood boiler maybe gasifier to do the job. Who has made all the mistakes and wants to see me avoid them?
Always wanted to go to BC; maybe someday. Heard it was expensiiiiivvvvveeee.

I have an ad running locally to see what I can scrounge up. This guy calls me and says he has an unused coal fired boiler he wants to sell. I start laughing when he says that it's 650,000 BTU. He starts laughing when I tell him I'm looking to heat a 900 square foot home. Then I'm on eBay last night and what do I see?... a 6000 gallon propane tank! Mmmmmm.... the wheels are turning!
Anyway, I quized him about coal in this area because its rare. I've never heard of anyone using it in these parts even though Fording Coal and the like are just a few hours drive, it's all for export to China. He says a B train out of Edmonton is a thousand bucks plus freight and it will run the boiler for 7 years! Mmmmm.... the wheels are turning!
I gotta check this out.
