Those look like the kind of trees I can fell - trees standing in the middle of a field with nothing to hit when they fall.

I did one of these here in Northern KY. it was my best scrounge ever; oak, black locust, hackberry and ash. Several cord worth. Somebody jump on it!
 
We have several people who live not too far from there. Hope they jump on this. That is about 55-60 miles from us.
 
Swung by this afternoon to take a look. Easy to get to and there are about 120 trees left. Everything over 6inches has been pulled but there is plenty of 4-6 inchers left. Many standing dead with no bark. from what I can tell it is all ash. I'm planning on grabbing a cord or two tomorrow. There is a lot on the ground as well. I'm thinking I'm going to go for a bunch as at 4-6 inches in diameter I won't be doing any splitting. IMG-20130123-00147.jpg

That is the kind of stuff I need, not these 36"+ monsters I have been getting lately. I'll have to look for that kind of stuff in April. That is something I could do myself rather easily.
 
Spent a short hour or so and picked up just over half a cord... 2x8x5 sitting on the trailer. About 75% of the logs the bark is falling off of and if dry, about 18% MC. Ready to burn and easy. I'm planning on going to get a few more loads. There should be enough for others as well.

Augie, it looks like a mix of ash and elm. That will make for some excellent firewood.
 
No way! You don't need a truck. Trailer hitch is at most $150 and a cheap snowmobile trailer is $300 on CL Much cheaper than a truck.

I have been trying to talk my wife into a truck, but I think I'll have an easier time selling a trailer hitch. Thanks for the advice.

Looks like U got some good wood, quick, pick em up sticks :)
 
Burning some of it this evening, air dialed down 450, stovetop temps, should see me through the night warm and cozy
 
Damn, I forgot all about this post and we had some mild weather to! Well, mild weather is gone, but still might take a look at it this weekend. I am all for the "no splitter" cut and stack kind of wood. How is the acces regarding distance from road to the trees? Looks like pretty level ground.

Is the location easy to find? (right where the ad says it is?) Thanks, KD
 
Access to is easy flat you can get pretty close. Took me a little under an hour and a half to fell cut to length and load on the trailer for about three quarters of a cord. here is some of the wood burning right now. Flue 400 stovetop 650. I'm going to head over this afternoon and pick up some more I'll post as to how much is left this evening. IMG_00000002.jpg

Never made it over there. Ended up processing some of what I have in the yard. Maybe Sundays morning if I don't end up installing the new hot tub heater
