Lowes Imperial Stove Board Review: Avoid

There is no insulation value to this stove board. It doesn't say it on the packaging (which says that it is for wood stoves). In the instructions it states: R-value = 0. If you need a stove board, check out the type 2 stove boards from Hy-C. I've tried 3 times to post a negative review on the Lowes' site. They keep getting rejected. Hopefully this last one will go through.

Strange. I bought the Imperial stove board at Ace Hardware and it does have an r-value. In fact, it has "Micore" stamped repeatedly on the back of it. Maybe they've changed the product. The enclosure states that it can "be used in place of one layer of 3/8 asbestos millboard". I called Imperial Group before I bought it and they said that it has an r-value of 1.09. The product number on the ULC label (Underwriters Labs Canada?) says 77Y9 Heat Shield.
 
The one from Lowes does not have microcore stamped on it. It does have 77Y9 on it though. In the instructions, it said that it did not have an R rating. So stick with the one from Ace if you want insulation.
 
Yeah that is weird. I own two large and two small ones and they all have Micore in them.
 
Just bought 2 this year from Tractor Supply that had micore in them

Only thing I suggest is that when purchasing (if you care about aesthetics) ask the person at the register / manager if necessary, if it's OK to open the box to inspect prior to purchase.

I bought 4 before getting 2 that were without dings / bangs even though the exterior of the box they came in was pristine.

OK, I deleted my post, it was incorrect. Something is definitely fishy. The listing clearly states:

Steel over mineral board for excellent protection.

jankdc, what do you see on the backside of the board you got? I'm wondering if this is a documentation error.
 
Begreen, it iooked like mineral board to me. Also, I was at Tractor Supply and yes they had type 2 from Imperial.
 
That R-value of 0 seems unlikely with mineral board back there. But if the claim zero, then it is for ember protection only hearths. We don't have any Tractor Supply stores or I would check this out.
 
My local Lowe's sell two one is for ember protection only and the other is an actual r rated hearth pad. I bought one thats r rated 1.5 from Lowe's its an imperial stove board.
 
I was at another Lowes this weekend and saw a hearth pad that had type 1 on it. It was the same that I bought, but I guess with a newer packaging.
