Last weekend I heard chainsaws down the street and went over to asked what was being done with the wood. Homeowner said I could have all I wanted!!!. I came back the next day and got all this: IMG_8419.jpg
He had cut the trunk into about 6 inch slabs before I got there, it was a little disappointing cause it was probably about 40 inches across but I made out pretty well with the branches.I got most of it split up and some of it stacked over the week and have a few rounds left. Final shot is the tools of the day:cool:

Then this morning I stopped by house with a biiiiig red oak down and asked about it, homeowner said i could have at it! All the wood I brought home came from a branch and 3.5 rounds! Halfway through a cut I noticed a bar nut had rattled off:mad:. Stihl dealer is closed sundays so Ill grab a few nuts tomorrow after school and get back to work on this monster!

The tree:

All loaded up: Two trips to get it all home, only in the mood for one trip to get it into the backyard haha. A little overloaded but the old bronco took it like a champ in 4lo;)

I went and got a little bit more today after school. Cut off 3 more rounds and got them split up. By the time i had them split into manageable pieces the rain wed been having all day had made the area around the tree into a mud slick. I figured Id come back another day rather than risk an accident. Made out with this for today:)

Cant get the picture to post from this computer ill get it up later

Here it is

very nice, love that oak. I have a bunch seasoning now that i wont touch for three years. Have a little that was cut a year and a half ago waiting for next winter. Tried some of it this year but it just hissed so will wait till next.

Nice "round" two...;)

Nice. Sometimes it comes easy. Sometimes its difficult to get to. Love that oak!;)

looks like you are getting quite a pile at home to split! Great work.

Its amazing how far the sound of a chainsaw travels!

I heard one running today that I wanted to find but I'm a bit under the weather right now and I am taking it easy.

You're right about that, it's a fun little game trying to track the sound down. Hope you get better soon

Went and cut some more yesterday afternoon. Ive got it down to one last round but ran out of gas. Im going back tomorrow to get that one and a few random pieces of locust that are in the yard.

Splitting:

The last round with a chickfila cup for size reference. My chainsaw bar guesstimate puts it at around 36 inches.

And all home and stacked up:

Well I finally finished up yesterday. Got the last round of oak and a good bit of what I think is locust.

Heres the haul:

The man said he had another tree down in the backyard. Ill have to think about that one because the backyard is a good 15 feet higher thanthe front and theres a wall of that size between the driveway in gthe front and the cliff of the back.
