I just cracked open the ton of Energex the other day. Burned a couple of bags, but switched back to the Barefoots for the single-digits last night. The Energex seemed pretty good... less ash than I expected. I'll switch back to them today after the hopper's empty.
By the way, these are the Pa-based "Energex American" hardwood pellets.

I hear ya, about an 80+ mile round trip for me and I would only be able to haul a 1/2 ton don't know if they sell single bags. Would I like to try them you bet , but I can get Turman's and Hamer's on my way home from work
where do you get Turmans from?

Nothin shabby with those 2 brands. I bet you pay much less than I can get em for. Consider yourself spoiled IMHO! Turmans rock and Hamers are Hot to trot! ::-)

There is a few southern softwoods that pass through PA on there way to New England. Have your dealer do some digging if you are interested.

  • Potomac
  • EasyBlaze
Both are from Southeastern Virginia. Might not be as top notch as the BC softies. But they will hang right with the likes of Energex and GAP/PowerHouse. Definetly cleaner than the average hardwood with comparable heat. Price would be the balance point.

Edit:
American Wood Fibers also has a softwood out this year. They have a plant in Ohio.

One other thing is to look at the local feed stores that carry horse supplies. You can get pine bedding pellets. Might have a few more fines in them, But will give you an Idea on how a softwood pellet will burn in your stove.

Thanks for all the good info Jay I really appreciate it.

Tractor Supply is close I'll give the bedding pellets a try. Truman's are $240/ ton $4.80/ bag same price Hamer's not sure of current price ,were almost $300/ton last year.

Human nature seems like we always want what we can't have.

There's No crying here:) How's that cough coming maybe we need some of that medicine we spoke about in that other thread;)

I'm a pellet newb, so I ended up trying just about everything in my area. NA's are not great, Greene Supremes aren't blowing my skirt up either. Green Teams were a slightly better pellet, but not by much. My top 2 favorites are Somersets and Barefoots. Both have awesome heat and the ash isn't bad. After exhausting trial and error testing, I've found my go to's in my opinion.

Way to go now you know what works for you & your stove.

Would love to see some pic's of that 600 hp Stang

Pics will be up soon. As soon as i can back it out of the garage!

Here's the dyno run...

You and Forum member FreakinStang would get along great. He has several Stangs and used to run a shop here in Ohio with his Dad. His current Cobra is Ridiculous (much as your Mach is ;))

Nice ride man...

I have had a few stangs. 70 mach1 351C 4 spd and a 73 mach1 351C 4spd. Always wanted a boss 429 until I saw this. Now I want one. Without the crash of course. Shoulda kept the wheel straight!

I had one of these too 1967 Fairlane. Pulled out the 289 and stuffed a 460 with CJ heads in it. Fun car but it was a trailer queen!

I dream of Fairlanes...... I also sport wood for the Ford Thunderbolt. Oh how I wish I can own one!!!

BTW, I'm not trying to hijack this thread. If this needs to be moved, I gladly will. I'm glad there are other car freaks here!

Never had a muscle car ,but in 1966 our family car was a Mercury S55 428cu in 4/11 rear end, 4 speed would go like a ***** ape . Loved riding in that car with Dad when he cut her loose, hooked me on big HP muscle cars.

Since we are on the topic of softwood or hardwood, can you guys think of some softwood pellet brands? Can't find anything in PA for the one I know (I.e. vermonts). Alternatively, might pickup a bag of horse bedding from agway for a change. :)

John, Not sure hoe far you are from HARCO MD But here you can get AWF Super Premiums or TS Equine Softies, I am diging the Equines at $5.00 a bag.

I like Hamer's in my stove.

They raised the price on Hamer's last year to 279/ton in the summer so I tried a bunch at 219/ton: Cheat River (cakes in the burn pot), America's Best (ashes), Dominion (ashes).

I just picked up 8 of Lignetics, and 8 of another brand (can recall). I'll try those too. At this point, I'll go back to Hamer they burn hotter, I need fewer, and I clean the stove less.

I really hope I can find these near Poughkeepsie, NY. I've heard great things and I'm anxious to try them.
and I'd sure like to get some of those brands from up your way like turmans

That's a drive for me, but I do have a local tsc that sells pine equine bedding for 5 bucks. Will give them a try for the heck of it.

hah, nice find. Too far for me to drive around considering I can get barefoot, country boys and hamers within 12 miles.

John 193, where in SE Pa. are you. Grimes Mower shop in Newmanstown carries quite a few different brands. North Forge Home Heating on 322 in Fontana carried some blend pellets.

North Americans are an average pellet. But Green Supremes are below average. IMO...

I measure all my output temps with a K-type thermocouple and the GS's are some of the lowest temps I have read. Other than Penningtons. My only complaint with North Americans is the chemical smell?? :(

Hey Dex- I had that TOO ; but only for 1-3 days of first using them--seems odd/weird, but after that clear sailing(no smell) AND they seem MUCH hotter than Stove Chow, andGreen Supremes. I like them , but have more ash than the others.......thoughts?
