Found what I think is a good price for the SootEater with the extension kit. That means you get the regular kit that will reach 18' and then the extension kit to add another 6'. All for $67.99 with free shipping. Beats any deal you can find on Amazon right now. BUT, you can pay with your amazon account one thing to watch though.... It's free FedEx ground shipping, but when I went to check out it defaulted to overnight. So make sure you get the free shipping before ordering.

On Amazon right now basic kits are $43.08 + $6.61 shipping from one vendor. Then the extension kit is $19.99 + $3.85 shipping from another vendor. That's $73.53. Cheaper from smarthome and it all comes from one vendor. Got mine today, in fact. Quick shipping.
 
Been eyeballing one of these for awhile on amazon but didn't want to deal with multiple vendors to get the extension kit. I ordered it today. Thanks for posting this.
 
There was a little bit of an issue getting the Sooteaters to me. One arrived immediately, one arrived mid last week.

I cut the strings a bit long thinking that the heads will wobble a bit going around and around and I want all of the pipe to be cleaned. They are cut for a 7" pipe and I'm running 5.5". My 18v li ion cordless is spinning it fine, but the half charged battery was drained and is currently charging.

I won't tell you how long it's been since last cleaning, but since I bought the 30 it hasn't been cleaned. So far it's pretty clean. I got much more from my 6 feet of single wall than the now measured 24 feet of liner and the singlewall was pretty clean. The singlewall is 2 feet vertical, the rest horizontal. When I disassembled it I felt a very strong draft up the liner.

Well, the charger just beeped. Time to get back to work.

Ok. I ran it through twice. I wasn't going to measure it because of the amount that came out of the single wall. But curiosity got the best of me and I ended up with 4 cups per year. I'm happy with that as it covers learning a new stove and chimney.

I am a rookie at using an insert.

Second season with a PE SUPER 27

I needed to clean my flue. My PE super 27 insert has performed well but I noticed it was not igniting and burning quickly, plus creating brown film on the lower right and left corners of the glass. I quit burning. After reading this post, I bought the SOOTEATER from SMARTHOME. I got the 92311c with three extra rod kits the CRD307 Chimney Extension Rods ( 2 rods each) Less than $120 bucks for the lot.

Great supplier. The order arrived quickly within three days for standard and no cost shippimg.
This gave me some extra rods for my 30 feet. The 92311 kit comes with 6 - 3 foot rods for 18 feet and the CRD 307 consists of two 3 foot rods. It sure is sweet to be able to clean this 30 foot flue any time, at my choice. And from ground level in any weather.

I removed the .105 trimmer line from the head, trimmed it to 6 and one half inches for my 6 inch stainless steel liner.

I removed the insert door and baffle, taped clear plastic at the top, snaked in the SOOTEATER rod to scoot the EATER up. I did not get much dust out into the room from this set up. I sure generated a pile of soot in the bottom of the PE insert. All dust mostly finer than coffee grounds. No heavy glazed stuff. I put it in a small bucket that holds short of a quart. Is that a lot for 30 feet? I will likely sweep again in about a month.

On the Colorado front range it has frequently been 50 degrees during the day in the sun then temp drop quickly when the sun goes past the hill (ROCKY MOUNTAIN) moving steadily toward and below zero overnight.
I have been burning less than optimal wood (bug eat pine) not well seasoned with a start up in afternoon , burn down overnight start up again the next day, So, I have had plenty of cold start ups.

Prescription for soot? Likely.

I was concerned about the offset to the flue. This is far less than 90 degrees and was no issue..

As we got toward the cap, I let the wife run the drill. I went outside and observed black dust issuing from the cap.

For each 3 foot length I ran it up and back down a few times until I noticed a lack of dust.

I am uncertain of a better way to determine how much sweeping is enough.

I used a small SANITAIRE vacuum with HEPA filter for clean up. And yes, it did smell like soot. Bag to trash. I had stopped burning for over a week. COOL stuff

The cost of the SOOTEATER is less than one cleaning with a local sweep.

I am not convinced they did a better inspection than I did.
