How far is your stove from the wall?

Recently purchased a Harman XXV. Having a custom hearth built and wondering how big the pad needs to be. It will be installed in the corner. My dealer said they usually use a 36", but that seems too small.
Based on my measurements, the pad needs to be 48", but that is assuming I go with the Harman recommendation of 6.5" to each wall from the back corners of the stove.
As far as performing maintenance goes, does anyone have recommendations for placing it farther from the wall, or should 6.5" be enough?
If it helps, I am only 5'7" and athletic, so I would probably need less space the move around than most people.
Obviously help from XXV owners would be great, but any input is certainly welcome.

Mine will be on a cut out portion of wall to wall carpet, so there will be no sliding it out. This seems like it could be a problem. If I bring it out any more, I will have to use a 56" pad, which causes problems with doing stonework on the walls, since there is a window in the way.

I will probably shoot for 10" off the walls from each corner. Considering stonework will add 4 inches to wall thickness, I suppose we will have to forgo the stonework on the walls. Maybe just go with tile work, or leave it as is. It will save money anyway.

The biggest issue I am having is with the glass to front of protection measurement. If I measure from the glass forward I clear 6 inches. If I measure from the left or right edge of the viewing glass to the side of the pad, it is less than 6". The manual says there must be 6" of floor protection to each side of the stove, but the brochure shows only 2" is needed.

Thanks for the help Mike. I was planning on going up over baseboard heat just like you did. The XXV is a little bigger, but I was planning on a 49" 2x6 riser with bluestone on top hanging 1.5" over the outer edges, making it 50.5 inches.
Based on what your experience was, it sounds like that will be enough.

Sure enough. I called my dad, and his XXV is 4" short of Harman's claimed depth. Thanks for the help.

I have a piece of cardboard cut to match the width and depth that Harman provides. My father has the same stove, and he uses a 48" corner pad. He says he has no problem with clearances. I have a friend who is a mason. He is building me a pad on top of the riser I am going to build. He is the one cutting the rug, I will ask him, if leaving it is an option.

Just had it installed today. Went with a 49.5" single piece of 1.5" bluestone corner pad. Got 13.5" from each back corner to the wall, and 11" from the glass to the front. That should leave enough room for the future stone addition to the walls.
