Ack!

it's like the 5 min warning going off before all heck is unleashed!

after my tank up of oil, i'm going to try my best to make these last the rest of the heating season and hope for warmer temps by late march. because thats when i'll be out.

I would much prefer burning pellets during the shoulder season than oil. I expect to be burning to some extent most of April anyway, quite possbly in to May. I'm right around where you are brian...going to be looking for some good pellet deals (if none) grab some presto's to tide me over from the depot. One thing for sure they won't go bad if you don't usem!

I know.... I'd rather burn too. I have a rule that april 1st, i'm done with heat nless it gets REALLY cold out, unseasonably cold.
So, assuming 1 bag per day, i will last to the end of march. I'm hoping for a warm week some time wher ei can not burn much.
I also have an electric space heater fireplace/tv stand thing for my bedroom, so i think that will be enough running it for 15 min in th emorning to take the chill out. And it has a remote :D

I've got 22 bags left. Been averaging a bag a day. I usually burn right into May
because I hate being cold and anything less than 70F inside my house is
cold to me. Therefore I will buy more pellets next month and burn them.
It's all good that's what I got the stove for. :)

I'm down to two tons left. I run my heat pump during shoulder season. I believe it is more efficient to do so than to run my pellet stoves on idle during those months.

Picked up a ton of Somersets today. Hopefuly they are the last I'll need this winter as it should be warming up here sooner than later.

Been burning Turmans all season (10 bags left), but my preferred store restocked with Somersets. Same price ($250/ton) for both, and still cheaper than I can get second rate pellets at Lowes, TSC, or HD in my area. Have not burned Somersets yet - first time I've seen them in my area.

WNCBear....Although in my opinion this is a step down, you certainly do not have a bad pellet. I do not sell set's but I have burned them and they are a great pellet.

I had sort of concluded that too based solely on the reviews I've read in this forum.

Regrettably, I cannot locate any more Turmans in the area and my alternatives are few and less than optimal (i.e. greater cost for even lesser pellets at Lowes, TSC, and HD).

I'll definitely be on the lookout for the Turmans in the future, and I plan on stocking up as I am able. The Turman plant is about 2.5 hrs. away and I'm toying with the idea of making a run this summer with a truck/trailer capable of hauling several tons. We'll see.

I was down to 5 bags Monday and picked up a ton of Somersets at TSC from their parking lot ($200). They normally store inside so I asked about it, seems the truck delivered in the morning and they hadn't had time to bring them inside. I had checked with Lowes first who is several miles closer and where I got my last ton of Somersets; they had Fireside @ $298 a ton but no Somersets. I asked if they would match ton pellet price with TSC as they did for my last ton and they said they only match brand for brand. They did not have Somersets currently so no match.
Are firesides any good?
I have used two tons of Somersets so far and this ton will get me to spring. Thinking about being a pellet pig and get another ton anticipating a fall price increase.

10 bags of Vermont's left. There will be a new ton of something in the basement by next weekend. Wanted the Stove Chow but I can't find them now. Might go with the Maximums.

So I read this thread and panicked.....only 37 bags left. I went to home depot and grabbed a 10 bags of Green Supremes.....nit ideal but work just fine in my stove.....just need to clean a lot more often...but by thetime I use then the stove hopefully wont be running 24/7.

Still looking for another 15 bags. Will get them by the weekend. I have a feeling the box stores will be out soon and the local pellet houses charge an arm and a leg per bag....will be waiting to use then for four tons of Vermont come April....hopefully they have them.

I get really pissy when I hear my oil boiler, Id go buy more pellets they will work next year.

Over a hundred left, And I got my eye on at least 1 hundred more(yep, already loading up for next season). This winter seems to have caught a few off guard. Not me, I pretty much know what I need for the average winter and have my stash loaded for bear. If I have some left over? They will be fine next season.

I burn pellets, Thats my source of heat. With a wifey(boss) that doesn't like to be cold. I have to stay one step ahead or its the dog house for me!

I wanted to buy 4 tons this past summer, but then it was one thing after another with repairs on the truck, siding blew off the house, yadda yadda and the extra cash just was never there. i KNEW i was going to be short, as i only have 2.5 tons toal bought this year (.5 was left over from last year). and i usually burn 3-3.25.

Nah I don't bother stashing anymore. Pellet house is literally a mile down the street
and his prices don't seem to vary much if at all year round. When I'm down to
a couple bags we just go down the road and grab a ton. In a couple weeks I'll have
another ton of something stacked on my porch.

I've been making treks to the big box stores to supplement my ever shrinking stash. I have about 18 bags of cubex left in the garage. Been getting 10 bags at a time from the stores. Stove Chow, Green Supreme, and some Inferno's. The Infernos actually burned well. I only had to adjust the air flow for them. After that they burned great. High heat and low ash, amazingly enough.

I am going to get more pellets myself, I have enough till April, but even April can still be chilly. I refuse to run out of pellets, I am spoiled now. I had to run the heat pump the last 24 hours and I could see the electric meter going around and around, and the house was freezing, NO Thank YOU!

What about the LG softwood? Bernier's had them when I bought the Maximum's.

I'm going to be close. I have just under 2 tons left, and I'll probably start picking up some FSU's for next year in the near future.

Just bought 35 Bags of Green Supremes a Home Depot Monday girl at desk said they are going to stock year round now.Hope she is right. thats at the Kingston NY store

Has anyone here been through a pellet shortage?
Ya I have. Installed my stove in 2005 and that very year there was not only a shortage of pellets but if you wanted
a stove you had to be quick on the draw or you got nothing. No shortage now in my area so no worries
for the moment. When one arises I'll deal with it then. I don't panic and always seem to find what I need.
Ymmv.
