Questions about a new (to me) fireplace insert

I recently purchased a house that has a Quadra-Fire woodburning fireplace insert. I am interested in using it as a primary source of heat for my home. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the insert, since I have no paperwork or owner's manual. Also, I am a little concerned about the condition of the firebrick. It also seems that there are some brackets on the underside of the baffle... is there a firebrick or something else missing? Will I damage the insert or my home by using the insert in it's current condition?

The firebrick can be replaced cheaply enough, although it looks like you will have to get some of them cut to fit. I would pull the perforated shrouds on either side of the firebox & see if you can find a rating plate with a model #. If you can, then you can search the Quadrafire web site to see if there's a manual available, for that model #. The manual & stove schematic should tell you what is supported by those brackets. Looks like there should be a baffle in the brackets & obove the rear secondary tube, but I could be mistaken...

I've read (on Hearth.com) that if you fo to a Stone place the firebrick will be cheaper than if you go to a stove shop...

Oh, yeah. A masonry supply store or a block company will have split brick for less than $2 each. A hearth shop will probably step on that by another buck.

Pull off the surrounds and see if it has a liner attached to it. That stove looks like it has been well used, I would pull it out and pull the bricks and do a full refurbish on it, a can of high temp paint can do wonders.

It looks like an older version of the 31/3100 series but I cannot find a manual that matches. The nameplate should be just behind the surround on the side of the stove. It would be easier to get information with the exact model number...
