Just looking at the stump , I'd say silver maple . But the split kind of reminds me of Linden ( basswood ) .
Whatever it is, it's free other than the work it takes to get it . And, in two years regardless of what it is now, it will morph into
Farwood ! :)

Hey Dave. Not sure myself but I did get some of that same wood at the golf course. Its alot closer than Middlesex county where I picked up another full load of Ash today. Split 5 big rounds and filled the 6 foot bed. Cant wait to hear what it is you have. I would take a guess at some kind of maple but the bark looks different to my limited knowledge. Cover it tonight. Be well

Red or possibly silver maple......I'm leaning towards red.....

Great shoulder season wood, Dave. Get all you can, once split and stacked that should be ready in a year if made into small/medium splits!

Thanks Rick! I just got lucky and fell into this one. Had a friend looking out for me, he doesn't burn but likes Beer, "mine"....... it's ok, I'm guessing I got a good cord+ here. Thanks everyone, so I'm gonna say maple it is unless something strange comes down the pike. You all are Great!

Maple, not sugar maple though.
Good fire wood regardless :)

As I said yesterday, Always check Craigslist south jersey which is where I think your located. click on for sale section and then the free section. There is free wood down your way. Here too and some people know what they are giving away and some dont. BUT, it is free and may be worth the drive. I hit good wood 8 out of 10 times. Not bad for free but I am approaching my fill until I split and stack it all. Regards, Rick

Yep, soft Maple (Red.) Medium-heat, and some of the fastest-drying stuff you'll find. I'm grabbing all I can get right now.

Red Maple. One of my favorite woods. It seasons fast and lights quickly. It won't burn as long as oak, but is still good stuff.

Sweet, Thank you all very much!:) Rain has finally stopped, going to get to work in cut mode....... This is a good size tree for what I'm used to but we'll "gittr done". Time to put the New 250 to work, old 021 will be huffing and puffing_g.... Pic's later tonight.

I've got.......a few....of those.;)
Maple, that dries pretty quick, burns fairly well, and leaves a lot of fluffy ash. I like it for late shoulder/early winter, and early to mid spring (pine before and after that).
I did up almost 2 cord late last year. Gooder stuff.
