So I bought 3 tons of turmans when I bought my xxv. I have burnt through just about 2.5 tons of them. I've decided to start to burn other things. Pellets direct is about 3 miles from my house so I have a great selection available to me. I grabbed 10 bags this morning and plan to grab 10 bags a week to figure out what I want to burn next year. I guess I should eventually try some box store pellets too to see if my smart stove enjoys them. This week I bought spruce pointed, a friend had good things to say about them. Next week I am thinking trebios.

To anyone in the northeast I have to say that the people at pellets direct seemed pretty cool. They are in Uxbridge ma just off rt 146. Big selection of pellets.

I am also finally posting pics of my stove.

He is a competitor of mine, but he knows how to compete like a gentleman. Naturally, I try to get people in our overlapping territory to buy from me instead of him, but you will hear little if anything bad about him.

The spruces burn clean and hot

So my impressions of the spruce pointed so far are

The ash is different, it is fluffier, it comes off the lip of the as pan easier, it doesn't bind up like the turmans.

They smell different kinda like pine or animal bedding.

The glass on the xxv seems cleaner.

By eye and via filling a 40 lb bag seems to have a greater volume, I.e. I could fit 1 and 2/3 bags of turmans in the empty xxv i could fit about 1 and a third spruce pointes in the empty xxv.

The air blows hot, it was 20 degrees f hotter on stove temp 7 but the Harman is a smart stove so I don't think that's a fair comparison.

I had to turn down the feed rate with the pointes, that combined with the seemingly lower density is interesting. They seem to be less volumous and take longer to burn.

Overall I think I am burning less pellets but it has been a day, and not a super cold one at that, so not trusting that conclusion.

I really like the spruce pointes. Think the stove will stay cleaner with them vs the turmans. But nothing firm until I burn em all week and then clean the stove. Then it will be on to trebios, then thinking independence softwoods, and then something else.

Next week I am thinking trebios.
dont waste yer money.dirty pellet.turmans and sprucies are in a class of their own.should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as trebio.

corkman, may the good Lord bless you and keep you for ever!

X3. The Trebios left the inside of my stove orange.

Wish you sold or had a store in Maine :(
I'd love to, but hell...if people in Maine think that SIB is too expensive, they sure as hell would not buy from me!!!

OK what else to try?

Dejno blend?
Curran optimal softwood
Independence premium softwood
North country softwood
Barefoot hardwood
American wood fiber softwood
L&g granules softwood

I want to find 2, 3, or 4 good pellets so in the spring/summer when good deals roll around I can pick up my stock for next year. Would rather buy something that I have burned. Since I don't have enough turmans to last me through the year I will buy 10 bags per week of different stuff. Trebio are out.

Barefoot and Lg should be good picks. I'd get a couple of American Wood fiber and North Country too.

after burning mostly green team for the past few heating seasons i recently got to try some of the upper tier pellets.somersets blew me away.stove kicked heat like never before.
OMV hooked me up with 3 ton of sets and lowes another 2.
then i did a test burn of 2 bags of Barefoot and once again the stove kicked heat like never before.burned about 15deg hotter that the sets.
tonight i have 2 bags of Cubex in the hopper and yep ,its kicking heat like never before.the cubex are burning about 25deg hotter than the sets and 10deg hotter than the barefoot.
so of the pellets you listed ,i would lean towards the barefoot.good ,very hot and clean pellet.but if you can get your hands on some cubex, you wont be dissapointed
