I just picked up an old Blaze King wood stove off of craigslist for $250. It was made in 1983 and the model number just shows KEJ. It doesn't say KEJ-1100, KEJ-1101 or KEJ-1300. Just KEJ. How do I know which model I have? The serial number is KEJ28054 if that helps.

By the year, it's a King before the 1000 numbers were used. (the 1000 numbers would have an oval cat)

You can call BK with the serial number. I have called the Walla Walla facility several times, and they were always very helpful. You could also pm BKVP. He doesn't post often, but I think he responds to PMs promptly.

Thanks for the tips guys. I cleaned the stove up when I first got it home and it has the oval cat. According to that link you gave me coaly it shows that my stove is the KEJ-1101 King model. You guys were a huge help and I really appreciate it. Thanks again.
Once you have a model number you think you have, try the search feature on this forum at the top left of page.
KEJ 1101 gives quite a few results. (or simply KEJ)

Great to be back on Hearth.com! We have been very, very busy. First, to clarify a little misinformation, we did make catalytic wood stoves in 1983. In fact, the first King catalytic was the KEJ1100. It had a round combustor but was not Oregon DEQ certified. We also, the same year made the PEJ1000, which was a hybrid wood stove that had both a combustor and four secondary air tubes with dedicated secondary air.

Also, in another post, someone mentioned a European brand of wood stove being 90%+ efficient. Some you will realize that European manufacturers actually do not use our same test methods. Second, they use the LHV (Lower Heat Value) for efficiency measurements. Based on the LHV formulas available to stoves sold in the good old USA, for tax credits, both BK and WS had numbers come out above 100%! Now you think marketers are crazy, what would you think if we put those numbers on a brochure?
So they best way to validate wood stoves efficiency, check the new EPA web site column for Thermal Efficiency. The manufacturers or their test agency of record must submit to EPA the thermal efficiency values for individual stoves and are not permitted to use the LHV. This option over the posting of the default number is new and more and more manufacturers are taking advantage of the option.
So now, to the question many are asking, yes, we are headed to Orlando Florida this weekend for our industry exposition, HPBExpo. And yes, there will be two new models in the BK booth. After the dealers have looked over the units and some fine tuning is done, we will be posting more details.
