Got Thinking About Not Using Oil Last Night

I haven't used much oil in the last two years since I got the pellet stove, just occasionally running it to make sure it still runs. I haven't had a delivery of oil for those two years and I still have about 2/3rds of a tank (above ground). What I got thinking about last night was condensation of water that occurs in the tank. Usually when I was getting oil the guy would put an additive in which would aid in dispersing any water, much the same as Drygas does, at least so he claimed. Filling the tank also moved the oil around and for better or worse kept sludge from building up on the tank bottom. So now I'm wondering if water may be condensing and collecting on the tank bottom where it could slowly rust out the steel tank and create a really expensive problem.
Anyone else thought about this or had an issue with a tank?
 
You may want to talk with a trustworthy HVAC professional and inquire if you should simply put in an additive every so many months. On top of that, run the furnace more often so as to burn it up at a quicker rate. Of course at a pace that still saves you money.
 
I think there is a product brand named Hercules, for such purposes.
 
putting a bottle of dry gas in your oil tank will not harm anything, in fact when I work construction every night we would put 1-2 bottles in depending on fuel tank size on our payloaders and excauvaters during the winter months and it was recommended by the kamatsu dealer my fuel is also on its second year being in the tank with a sludge inhibiter also hopefully this was of some help
 
1804 farmhouse here - oil tank is at least 33 years old. For the past 7 years I have bought 20 gallons of oil annually for the furnace when we have company in the guest room. Outside 500 gallon tank has run at below 1/4 tank reliably when we're on vacation or have company - never any blockages over the last several years. THere is an in line filter that have never been dealt with.
 
I wouldn't go that long, kinda like driving a car and never having the hood opened
