Hi Fellow Wood-Burners,

I'm an ancient wood stove owner and I'm in dire need of the right front door of a Dutchwest Federal Airtight stove. Model: FA 264CCL (plate on back says made by Dutchwest India LTD.) I live in Japan and because this model ended production around 1990, Japan is door-LESS!! Any suggestions, or place/person for me to turn to over there?...Dutchwest here isn't very helpful!
*4 forum-recommended sites I've checked in the US are also door-less!

If any individual has new or decent used front doors available, please contact me. The right door is broken at the hinges. Left door is usable, but if available, I'll take one, along with the right.

Before attempting to have something created over here, I thought I'd give it a go on your side of the globe. I'm a clay worker and I use the ash from the stove for my glazes. I may even be able to throw in a piece of my artwork, to boot. Any bites?

Ciao and Happy Year Of The Dragon!

Find a good welding shop. That is not beyond repair.

Thanks for your advice, Dune. Really appreciate it.

I know a professional welder who will attempt to fix it here in Japan. The problem is, he keeps saying that he's (if my translating is correct) not sure of the durability after welding iron to cast-iron. I guess I'm going to have to give it a shot, as there doesn't seem to be any more front doors hangin' around.

Durability is fine for an exterior part like a door. Interior parts are often too burned to be repaired.
If you want, have your welder P.M. me for specific instructions.

Good Morning Dune,
(I believe Japan is 14 hours ahead of the East Coast. 10:00 am now.)

Unfortunately my welder doesn't speak english. Can I give him your instructions? (In layman's terms, please.)

Note: Isn't it a strange place for the door to crack? Maybe I had it closed too tightly and over-stressed the door??
... and the latch became inoperable quite a few years back!

I owned a CDW FA264CCL for many years and I never used the front doors. Once repaired use the side door if you can as it is much neater and easier to load as well. The side door seems pretty rugged as well..

Did you ever get a door?
