To process my wood in on a snowy, sleety day. My work is highly weather dependent so it is nice when I can still get some work done around the farm on a wet day like today and stay dry doing it.

can't beat that and to make matters better you're in central Virginia definitely a bonus.

I too support pole barns!

Really like yours! Mine is open on three sides as well. Looks about as rustic as yours too.:)

This was a hay storage barn when my paternal grandfather was alive. It needs some work, but it's a great place to store rounds, process said rounds, then let the splits season for a few years.

Someone gave me one of those pop up canopies almost a year ago. Guy was going to toss it in the dump but I figured I'd fix it one day or something. I was cleaning out the back of the truck and noticied it was still back there. (yeah... I should probably clean the truck most often... I had to shovel out like 3" of bark/dirt mix that had grass growing in it at some point.... it was all mixed in with spilled diesel, bar oil, gas and probably dog pee too.. it's a work truck, not gonna win a beauty contest with it)

ANYHOW...

Pulled it out and it's in nearly brand new shape. Not sure what he thought was broke. 10ftx10ft. Will be handy for working outside in the rain (like processing wood) or even camping.

Same, paternal grandfather built the barn in the 1950's for hay storage and feeding. Now it is storage; wood, equipment and so forth. Mine is 60x120.

I need to jack up the far side and replace the posts on that side the roof line is getting a little wavy. I got a bunch of free used power poles from my local coop now I just need to find the time to do it.:)

Whats with the mantles in the background of your first picture, FF? Did you make them?

Nice looking set-up, by the way.

Not exactly sure but my guess goes as follows. The house I live in dates from 1810-15, There are two original chimney stacks and I know they both had three fireplaces each. Four of the 6 fireplaces were closed up in 1952 when the house was completely renovated down the the foundation by my grandfather. I have 4 old mantles that have been bouncing from storage to storage for as long as I can remember. So were they the mantles for the four other fireplaces in the house?

One last photo of the pole barn so Pagey doesn't feel bad about his pole barn. Mine isn't any better but it does the job.
