Freeze Protection, what a pain in my a$$.

Is there a 7 day (or more) programmable thermostat that will allow me to have no call for heat during certain periods?

I have an Enviro EF5 Evolution at my cottage, I believed, naevly, that I could use any compatible 7 day programmable thermostat. I am using a Honeywell 8000 (I believe), and it will not allow me to go below 4.5 degree Celcius or 41Degree Farheinheit.

I need to be able to leave the cottage for 5 days without the stove coming on. The temperature in our area gets very cold (-22F/-30C) at times and there is no way to provision enough pellets to hold the temperature as high as 42F/4.5C

There is no phone service to the cottage, and internet service is also not an option. If I could find a thermostat that hooked up to GSM (wireless cell phone network) that would work, but an expensive option.

Any ideas? I cannot possibly be the first to want this?

pull the plug before you leave?

Then it really won't start on it own come Friday ;)

The objective is try get the stove to light itself Friday morning so that when we arrive Friday evening the cottage is warmed up.

I did find, since the posting of this thread, a GSM based switch that I can text message to turn on. This could work. A minimal wireless plan and we're good to go. Even a pre-paid wireless account would work.

IN order for this to work, I would have to leave my existing thermostat on, and have the wire loop to the stove open, then closed for the stove to trun on. This could be accomplished by the GSM based switch.

Thanks for the Skytech link. I will look at that also.

I dunno what a cottage is exactly but I have Nest thermostats at my house and you can turn them on or off from the internets...

A cottage is a cabin, or seasonal dwelling located typically in a remote area. So in my location internet service can be acquired, but only through a Cellphone data stick device.

Have you tried setting m-thur on an a/c cycle with a high temp? there'fore even though its off, it won't try to cycle anything because its colder in the room.

Interesting thought. Not sure if that is possible through scheduling, but I'll definitely have a look

Do you have to drain all the water at the end of every weekend?

I don't have to drain it all. I heat the bathroom and a water closet that contains the Water Heater and Pressure tank, Filters etc. As a precaution, I drain the pipes, but not the tanks. Its a 90 second process as it was designed to be drained quickly.

How about putting the thermostat in on of those rooms, if it's more than 41*F? Might not be the optimum place for a thermostat on the weekend though.

Ok, problem solved.

I found a switch box that is controlled by a gsm cell phone sim. I have spliced into the thermostat line. I not I can text the box and start or stop the stove anytime.
