What other local brands have you had luck with ?

MWP blend burns quite clean for me I think I could go all winter without touching the pot or trap door handle with them. They are not the hottest pellet but decent. PWI burns good hottest pellet I have burned, I got them at SMRF ( southern maine renewable fuel ). They are pricey though not worth the extra cost.

I've been burning Maine's Choice 100% Hardwood since the start of March when I ran out of my 3 tons of MWP supply.

The first few bags I was excited, they seemed to be burning pretty hot and ran better in my stove on low than the MWP.

After a few bags I quickly noticed that these pellets were making my glass absolutely filthy. With the MWP I merely had to use the vacuum brush on my glass maybe once a week, and give the glass a good wipedown with vinegar every couple of weeks. Now with the Maine's Choice I have to clean the glass everytime I fill it. Just burning completely different for me cleanliness wise.

I think it was maines choice with 2 moose sitting in front of a pellet stove on the bag? I hated them wayyyyy tooo much ash!! Maybe moose like ash but I sure don't.

Limerick. Great little town with some fantastic fishing ! But always a drive for pellets ! We are pellet poor in limerick ! But most can be found in Portland . Living in this state with some much wood and finding a decent pellet is so hard . Looking at the snow falling on the lake now and having a few cold ones in front of the stove ( life ain't so bad !!)

Where in Portland besides Hd or Lowes?

TS is in Scarborough - SAMs club in South Portland ( remember between Westbrook and south Portland you have 2 each of HD and Lowes ) on my 8th bag of these and still pleased glass is just getting dirty no clinkers and good heat . I guess I'll know more on Sunday when I do my weekly cleaning

Very little ash ! But like I said I think it has to do with the way I'm burning them ( low and slow )

Thx Jaymaine34. I forget about the TSC on Rt. 1. I don't go that way very often.

I'm burning the hardwoods right now. No issues. Seem to be a good shoulder pellet. Bought them at Home Depot for 4.18 a bag.

Maines Choice or Maine Woods? Maine s Choice is carried by Lowes, Maine Woods by HD.

Maines Choice...the one with the two moose sitting by the fire :)

mwp softies were going for 259 at the end of their run.. i got mine for 234 delivered....

I've heard good things about them . Just haven't had a chance to try them . At 234 I would be a pig !

Just did my weekly cleaning . No big surprises more ash other than that the only thing I noticed different was my fire pot had spots of green . Cleaned off easy enough a few more hard clinkers than normal ( very small pull gate still moved easy ) I would use them again in October / November or march / April . Heat was good ( not great but good for them temps we have had )
In total I burnt about 6/7 bags and still have 6 more I'm back on the Mcfeeters just to see the difference . Now keep in mind I burn vermonts in one of my stoves and for the price difference I will be using some Maines choice in there also .
I think my results are due in part of how clean I keep my stove ( normal weekly cleaning is about 90 mins to 2 hrs ) I leave nothing untouched ( I do not do venting weekly ) I clean every thing I can get at . So I would think for most people they would be a high maintenance pellet . But well worth the savings in my opion !

Just finished the first week of burning with the Maine's Choice. I agree. Lot's more ash. No clinkers here but I wouldn't want to burn these all season. I've been spoiled by Cubex, PWI, Vermonts, ect....I'll fork over the extra $50 for the better pellet!

I feel the same way my father-in-law doesn't understand why I pay a little extra for a good pellet. But he doesn't have a pellet burner.
