Buddy texted me from work yesterday and asked if I wanted a pair of climbing spikes, found them at a local demolition/salvage store.....
Brand new, in the box Buckingham climbers. All the straps and hardware (pole gaffs and tree gaffs included).
$10.00.....YES TEN FRIGGIN DOLLARS FOR THE PAIR!!

There were 4 full pairs, in unopened boxes......we bought 'em all........

Damn! !!! My new Klein gaffs were $140 something back in the mid '90's

I was busy all day taking the doorway wall out (between our dining room and our remodeled living room), didn't get a chance to do any pictures. They have both the tree gaffs and the pole gaffs. Heck, just the gaffs alone are 40-50 bucks. I got four full pairs of climbers with both gaffs for 40 bucks!!

I went up there (to that salvage store) this morning and looked around. Ended up getting a full box of 1 1/4" roofing nail coils (for the pneumatic nailer) for 10 bucks, and got a whole crate full of brand new, 20" x 36" burlap sacks with drawcords for 10 bucks and last, but not least, I found an 18th century sawtooth trammel in his friggin metal dumpster.......WOW.....

That trammel is probably worth around 150 bucks or more. Its hand forged out of iron, and its definitely from the 1700's......he had no idea what in the hell it even was! I'll post some pics of my prizes tomorrow.

I'll probably go back up next week. He had a whole pile of freeweights, a like-new Hayward swimming pool pump (I always have a use for a good water pump), and I noticed a 'used' Bri Mar slide-in dump bed I'd like to ask him about. That'd fit perfect in my truck.....

Only way you'd see me climbing a tree is if a bear is chasing me!

After my accident (fell off a roof, broke my back) I get cold sweats just climbing a step ladder to change a light bulb!

That stinks, Nate.....
I'm not real fond of ladders or spikes, but some tree jobs we do require them. I got all the equipment to climb with ropes, and I feel very secure climbing that way. I'm sure if I had an episode like you did with your fall, I'd feel the same way.....

Wow Scott! There are bargain and then there are some that you can hardly describe! Fantastic find. But I won't wear those things again. Never did like them but now my body would not tolerate it at all.

I hear you Dennis. They are VERY hard to get used to wearing, and I'll tell ya (as I'm sure you already know) without logging boots on, they are almost painful on the shins.....

I only use them as a last resort. But with a deal like that, I had to buy them all. I'll probably end up selling a couple pair on fleabay.....
I'm going full-on with the rope ascending this year. I have the good Petzl ascenders, a good figure-8 descender, a good climbing harness, lots of caribeaners and I just have to get the good rope. Then I'll be in business...

I agree Scott. I always used to wear loggers boots and sometimes I'm tempted to buy another pair because I like them so much. Only bad thing about them that I've ever found is if you try walking in some clay that is mud. Nasty!

I'd enjoy seeing your setup.

I'll make sure to post some pics this summer when we get to cutting......I ain't even gonna attempt to do any jobs til I get the boss's living room floor and trim done.....

Yes, still plugging away at that project. It's amazing the twists and turns you have in day to day life, isn't it? I should've had that room done a couple of months ago, but we changed some ideas for flooring and such out there in that room, and added more work....go figure!

You're not alone. I'm 7/8's done on my flooring project, then.... "We need new stair treads."
I have the new rough sawn 4 x 12's ready this week, and then finishing begins. Nice taper from 40"- 54", then the rails. And then...........

I would not buy over the calf boots. Just shave the hair were the pads hit the side of your leg.
8 or 10' boots with a good steel arch.
