I found a dealer in CT that is about 70 miles away from me that is offering me two options on a Harman Accentra insert. One is a burn demo that has essentially been run 5 days a week this season for $2650 with only a one year warranty through the dealer. The other is a floor model never used with full harman warranty for $3250. I have a local harman dealer about 15 mins away for service but the selling dealer said that the closer dealer is not necessarily obligated to provide warranty service. Does this sound right? M. Local dealer quoted me $3999 for a new model. What are your thoughts? Would love to save some money on this by buying the burn demo.

I purchased a floor model PF100 8/2011 from a dealer that went out of business. Saved a TON of money. Furnace was in new condition having never been used. Harman gave me a full new warrantee. I have had a couple of minor problems with it that required warrantee parts replacements. All I get from my local dealers is sour grapes that I didn't buy from them when it comes to problems. I've found a distant dealer that is willing to file warrantee claims for me to get parts, which has had its own problems....believe me. They are out of my service area so I have to do the work myself. Luckily, it has been easy fixes so far, but warrantee coverage on my furnace has been a real exercise in testing my patience.

Would I do it again? For the amount of money I saved over today's prices for a PF100, over 60% off....yes.

Maybe this will help you decide.

Just read through Harlan's warranty. I think I'm going to shy away from the burn demo as the warranty won't cover the unit beyond the original installation. What are your thoughts on installation? I have a buddy that sells wood stoves but not pellet who offered to install it. Any concerns or special requirements for the install of an accentra?

Why don't you call Harman directly and ask what they'll cover under warranty for both stoves. Keep the name of the person you speak with along with the date and time of you decide to make the purchase. Maybe you can get the serial number off both models to help Harman give you a solid response. I would also ask Harman what the situation would be with your local dealer servicing under the warranty.

If you have a warranty through Harman left still I would go for the cheap option you need to contact Harman though and see what they say. Your warranty is with Harman not the dealer you may have to piss and moan a lot but you can get what you want if something fails and no dealer is left around you. Odds are you wont have a warranty issue anyways. You have to remember how many stoves Harman and other companies sell compared to how many people are complaining about them not working.

Thanks for the input guys! I think I've made my decision and will update you tomorrow once I secure the stove at the dealer

Go to harman's web site you can pull up warranty under customer care link. The guy that sells you the stove is the one who will fix the stove it's all spelled out . Hope this helps.

The warranty is tied to the dealer you purchased from. The closer dealer will gladly service your stove at cost. Think of it like this, if your stove is down, do you want your dealer to be 15 min or 70 miles away?

One of the biggest complaints of Harman stoves is the warranty issue when someone buys a stove out of their service area. The local dealer will be unhappy you didn't buy from him so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for help when something goes wrong. If you are handy it might work out OK, in that you may be able to order parts through the local guy and do it yourself. I don't think Harman will care you are having problems getting a dealer to service your stove. You are very dependent on the dealer so be forewarned.

Thanks guys. Newf lover do you have a newf? We have an 8yr old male newie on the small side at around 140lbs. Great dogs!

I have a 9 year old female who weighs 148; her father was huge. She is a great dog, friendly and gentle, although has a few annoying phobias, stairs, hardwood floors, and now snow on the deck. Too slippery for her!
Back to stoves. I have a P68. When I bought it there was a squeak out of the box. They came out about 5 times before they pulled the auger, filed the daylights out of it to get rid of it. I had the igniter replaced a couple years ago and the control board replaced just recently. That's about it for 5 years. However, with pellet stoves you have to be prepared for things breaking, wearing out or whatever. This board is full of posts by people totally frustrated by a non-responsive dealer and are left with a non-working stove. There has to be someone you can depend on for possible repairs, unless you are like some people on this board who seem to be very capable of fixing their own.

Funny when we lived in the city mine was scared of metal plates and grates in the sidewalk.

Update.. Based on the information you all provide me and talking over the risks with my wife I decided not to purchase either units. As much as I'd love to get a deal I don't think it would be worth the hassle of trying to deal with a dealer 70 miles away and/or a product without warranty. Instead I'm going to try and work with the dealer locally to see if I can get a discount through him or try to purchase his current floor model when they come out with the new Accentra in the spring. Worse case I have to pay full price but at least I'll feel more comfortable with my dealer being a 10 minute drive down the road.

Thank you all for your time and assistance on this I greatly appreciate it.
