Is there some sort of contest going on to come up with the world's slowest, least efficient, most complicated and expensive method of splitting wood...or what?

Come to think of it that would be great for cutting your hair permanently as well ! One cut fits all.

Thats very creative. I couldn't think it up.

Wow that is slow

100 points for ingenuity. -125 points for efficiency.

I don't know...pretty creative and cool.

With a mini-excavator's hydraulic system on tap, why on earth wouldn't you use it to power a conventional type splitter? The whole inertia type hammer system seems crippling for that machine. Plus those are some extra-cute rounds he's splitting. Pretty sure I could bust them up with my splitting hatchet.

I do like the idea of mounting the splitter to the mini-excavator tho. They can be pretty easy on fuel if your not working the snot outta them. Newer ones have an auto throttle system, very quiet too. Closed center hydraulic systems with variable displacement piston pumps, auto throttle control, set the aux hydraulic circuit to constant run mode (so no need to operate from the excavator's seat), oh man could you build a helluva machine.

If I already had the excavator, I'd consider building/buying a splitter for it for sure.

What if the excavator could reach out and pick up the price its splitting? It could pick it up with the supplier at a lower pressure, soon around so its over the pile and then put the pressure to it. Swing around, grab next piece, repeat.

Really? The design sucks. Why wouldn't you design a beam/cylinder attachment with a 4 way that you could reach out with the arm and just split in place. You could split wood as fast as you could spin and extend the hoe. No helper boy needed either. The production would be a %500 improvement with one less human.

I would love to see these guys reinvent the wheel. I'm sure it would be amazing to say the least.

Wow! what a great idea, hope he gets a patent on it before someone steals the design!;lol

If they at least had some kind of hydro powered "lock" instead of clipping on that hook it wouldn't be quite as bad.

Mind blown . . . cannot imagine anyone thinking this is a great splitter.

Nope not scary at all.
I didn't look at this thread because of the title. Can't believe I almost missed that clap trap because I didn't want to see blood and guts!

But if they let that video go a little longer we would see some mayhem sooner or later.

No blood and guts yet but I am sure that idiot will be spurting soon at a computer near you !

Imagine if the operator did not have a helper, and you played the video in fast forward, it would be like the Benny hill show.

You guys need to lay off! Whoever came up with this obviously has an engineering degree from a prestigious university.

Is it inefficient? Maybe. But at the end of the day, he's got wood split. I'd personally find a better way to load them. That lifting & moving counters all that he had gained with his design.

Instead of unhooking the wedge each time it gets stuck in the wood, why don't they just pick up the whole wedge and log assembly? It's that hooking/unhooking that would make me crazy in a short period of time...
