So i build a fire today when I got home from work, the house was a bit chilly mainly downstairs. It got really hot really soon. it went from 67 to 78 in a matter of minutes. Its all good though. Id rather high 70s than high 60s. tomorrow is supposed to be almost 80 here. I cant imagine the temps going back down low enough for the stove to be needed, but then again who knows. NY weather has been erratic to say the least.

Same here In Michigan. I was thinking about cleaning out the stove and sweeping the chimney, but I think I'll wait and make sure it's over. Wont hurt for it to sit awhile, instead of wasting my time if the temps do go down again.

yep im done here besides the ocassional early morning small fire to knock the chill off...and then shortly after raising the windows..lol...

82 here today. I started loading the shed for next season. I'm done. A few chilly nights ahead but I will feed the electric company's employees kids.

4C here near Ottawa. Calling for 12C tomorrow. But we`ll be getting 2C on thursday with snow. Spring is not here yet. Still a foot and a half of snow in the fields. Ran out of wood early this year. Can`t wait for the snow to go away so I can load up for the next three years!

I wish, -14C (8F) last night. No daytime temps above freezing for this week yet.

After last nights fire I'm done until Friday night or Saturday morning. It might be spring but it can still get cold at night where I live

Don't know what y'all are talking about. I just tossed some splits onto last nights coals. We did get up to an unexpected 71 this evening, but looking for 40 before morning.

Umm, yeah. Don't do it yet...

Yup, we're gettin' there also.....70's tomorrow, and the rest of the wek is gonna be nice, but rainy.....got the stove loaded and ready to go just in case I awake to a chill in the air....

Had a fire for the past few days as a cold front passes through. 40F at night makes a warm fire appreciated.

So here in north central Mass it's 47'F today and going to low 60s later in the day. I still have remnants of the winter all around the house, but the war is over.

Later in the week it is supposed to get cool again with pesky air from you Canadiens ...hey! ;lol I'll get a fire going for that.. maybe.. if I don't break out the Wild Turkey instead.

Nah.. but I am pretty much done. Burned more wood than I wanted to this year, but only used 1/2 tank of oil.. and still kept the whole house warm through a pretty damn cold and tough winter.

If I'm not here as much it's because I am out riding one of my scooters and flirting with waitresses New England and Northeast wide! :) Which I will be doing today as well. The retired life is starting to agree with me. (now if I could stop getting any older and needing ongoing replacement parts)

But.. I'll be hangin' around just because the characters here are so much fun and so much my own kind'a folks.

Just about done here - I figure I won't be hauling any more wood into the house for this season. Time to start staging my wood for next year. I ended up with about 3/4 cord left over from the 3 1/2 cords I had put in the pile for 2012/13. Just under 3 cords isn't too shabby - and that leftover wood is 3/4 cord less I have to move.

Next year's wood is stacked 'in the woods' of my back yard which is down quite a hill. I ran out of other places to stack so that is where it landed. Now I have to push it all up the hill - at least it should be quite a bit lighter than when I stacked it. I need the exercise anyway, heh.

Retirement + nice ride(s) -- Oldhippie you are livin' the dream - I am jealous.

The snowplow actually made a run on my camp road late last week - I didn't think it was necessary since the blacktop melted it down pretty fast - just added a bit of drama to remind us that when you get a plow out in April, you know it's been a long one. The banks out there are still high and there's lots of snow in the bush. I feel for the guys showing up in April from other parts, to open up their camps - expecting to maybe get down their driveways - not happening.

We will have fires well into May this year, if not June. The way the weather's been turning, I wouldn't be too surprised to see 1 or 2 more blasts before it's over. The saw is going to get a workout this spring for sure...

I turned up the t-stat this morning......just needed to warm up the house for breakfast.

End of season..chuckle, chuckle,..snort.:)

Yep, looks like it's over, but you never know.

Was gonna build a fire last weekend but got too sick to deal with the tendering and cleanup. So wish I was able to buy that insert but the cost of the steel liner / installation was the deal breaker — and I'm still not sure about clearances. We also discussed whether we might move to elderly grandma's larger house, rendering the whole installation a potential waste of money/undesirable attribute for resale*.

*Maybe not upstate, but here in Nassau Co., LI, buyers can be easily spooked.

I'm still waiting for the snow to melt! I think we hit 47 once this spring and we're not going to see even close to that for the next 5 days. Forecasting an inch or two of snow over the next couple days. After the last couple years, I forgot what a "normal" winter was. Still burning here... ;)

Oh, and LOL @ Simba.

Last few days, fifties daytimes and 30s nights. Then this a.m., 8 F, and forecast 4 F tonight, snow all day, 65 mph winds. Denver iced up. We'll keep the stoves rockin'.

Michigan is being Michigan with a teaser of spring and a cold front coming in this week with steady rain. I have been starting a small fire in the AM and letting them go out by mid afternoon. From what I can tell I will be repeating this process "on and off" for a few more weeks but the end is clearly in sight. Good time to be burning up a bunch of uglies and bark trash.

Nope. Burning season not over yet.

It is around 80 here in the Lower Hudson Valley, but I won't be "done" with the stove until May. A little fire is nice on those rainy spring days. I'll clean out the stove in June.
