Good time to be burning up a bunch of uglies and bark trash.

Yeah got a pile of uglies - nothing goes to waste. Also looking forward to a couple of all-day outside fires to really clean up outside (the never ending renovations, etc.).

Still lighting mostly one a day most days here in Vermont. It is supposed to get a little cooler with rain the rest of the week.
Normally by mid april any year I call it quits. If I go a week or so without a fire I usually will call that a year. I dont like to let the pipe set too idle for too many days this time of year . Burnt around 3 cords or less burning 24-7.

It is around 80 here in the Lower Hudson Valley, but I won't be "done" with the stove until May. A little fire is nice on those rainy spring days. I'll clean out the stove in June.

Yeah, I think we'll get a few of those days.

Don't know what y'all are talking about. I just tossed some splits onto last nights coals. We did get up to an unexpected 71 this evening, but looking for 40 before morning.

Umm, yeah. Don't do it yet...

Glad I didn't, 38 outside and we got the stove a roaring.

I wish it was over.
However, I am now burning my 6 year old silver maple that I never got around to using. It is now 85 degrees in the house and if the power does go off tomorrow, we won't freeze. Probably die of heat prostration mind you.

Winchester - Newington
11:01 AM EDT Thursday 11 April 2013
Winter storm warning for
Winchester - Newington continued

A wintery combination of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain on the way.

Colder air has moved into the region and is coinciding with an approaching low currently over Illinois. A few centimetres of ice pellets and snow are expected for regions from Lake Huron towards Lake Ontario by early afternoon. It will become patchy this afternoon.

The main precipitation is expected tonight. It is expected to be predominantly ice pellets and freezing rain and may fall heavy at times. It should taper off by Friday morning with temperatures rising above freezing.

Although roads may tend to be slippery, of greater concern is the risk of widespread power outages due to downed tree limbs and power lines from significant ice accumulation combined with northeast winds gusting to 60 km/h. There is a risk that this could be a major ice storm.

For regions east of Georgian Bay towards Eastern Ontario including the nation Capital region, snow mixed with ice pellets is expected to begin tonight and continue through much of Friday. The majority of the precipitation should be ice pellets with some snow, with up to 10 to 15 centimetres expected. Freezing rain is also a threat for these regions, although it is not expected to be as widespread as regions farther to the south.

Yes, I hear you. It looks like it aint over here either. I may have spoken too soon. last night the temps went down into the 30s and i woke up to a warm house which only means that the furnace went on.. NOOOOO.

Yeah Colin my wife just flew from Ottawa to Toronto and then home - she got lucky and hit the windows in the middle of all the weather coming up from the southwest. Lots of cancellations and delays today.

jeff_t - I have to ask - the "shadowy place"..?

Had to light a fire this AM after two days of none. Looking at my records this hints that we'll probably have 3-5 more this year so although not 'over' it is certainly at the very tail...

I'll up ya one --- got an oil delivery!
Dayum, so much for that. Guess I will get it paid off and be set for the beginning of next season with some dry wood and some liquid hydrocarbons.

Had a full bore mid winter style fire last night and good thing cause the house was still warm this morning and the high today is around 35 and sleeting out... will most likely ahve another fire tonight. after that I MAY be done for the season. Bizzare winter for sure

Woke up to another April winter wonderland today. More forecast for later next week. I actually shoveled the end of the driveway this morning in town so I anticipate a bit of work when I get out to camp. Stove will be running for a while yet.

Even the usual-winter-loving pup looks like she's had enough of it..

Priceless photo — dog's expression just about says it all.

Thanks OLK - she is a drama queen for sure.

Wish I could get a pic tonite - @10 minutes ago walking thru fresh snow down to the shoreline (Superior) -snow still coming down pretty good. Iced up still to @ 150 feet out, some decent ice mounds at the edge. It is like a beautiful still January night out there right now. The fire is burning bright inside. Hard to believe we're approaching mid-April...

Another report from central mass....(Shrewsbury)....about 35 degrees this am...so the stove is on again.

Here on Long Island, NY, at the end of last week the highs were in the low 40s. Early this week we were in the low 80s. Last two days we were again topping out in the 40s with rain. Restarted the stove with a couple of splits when the house hit 62°. Small fire and the sun is all we need. Today's high is forecast to be 55° so we will let the stove burn out this morning. Love this roller-coaster we are riding...

13Apr...and we're still burning. Currently a damp 42f outside.

39F this am, been burning for the past couple days 24/7. Low fire during the day and stoke her up good for the night.

Never a month without some fire. Rain, fog, SE winds, cold BB sea temps.

It is a silly saying butt:
" Maine has 2 seasons. 10 months of winter, and 2 months of poor sledding."

Yep, winter is not letting go here just yet. It was a way warmer than normal March, but mid-April its cold here again. There was a dusting of snow here this morning, and it has been freezing the last 2 nights in the greater PDX area. I watched the Giants-Cubs game in Chicago this morning and they were dressed for Siberian weather there today, so it looks like north US heating season is not over just yet. I have been burning since mid-week here again, after a few weeks of no fires. I can live with it, I burned all the way through July here last year. Shoulder season burning: light fir and cedar.

Its currently 48 year but its windy and we were out all day so that house feels a bit damp. ill be lighting up soon.

The snowplow actually made a run on my camp road late last week - I didn't think it was necessary since the blacktop melted it down pretty fast - just added a bit of drama to remind us that when you get a plow out in April, you know it's been a long one.

Retirement + nice ride(s) -- Oldhippie you are livin' the dream - I am jealous. The snowplow actually made a run on my camp road late last week - I didn't think it was necessary since the blacktop melted it down pretty fast - just added a bit of drama to remind us that when you get a plow out in April, you know it's been a long one. The banks out there are still high and there's lots of snow in the bush. I feel for the guys showing up in April from other parts, to open up their camps - expecting to maybe get down their driveways - not happening.

I am not usually burning into April, but this year mother nature just keeps bring more of the Canadien air down to us and it's cold..Cold COLD still.

Now mud season is here. A friend lives at farm in Fitzwilliam NH, and it's 1/2 mile off the paved road on a dirt road than is now closer to a Off Road Mudder Competition. I'm glad I've got 4WD to go visit him. Plus we've had lots of rain so mud season will last for a while.

It's a good thing I have $700 of electric underwear to get out and ride my scooters and I'd be really mad! >>

4" overnight, another 12"- 18" forecasted thru Wednesday.
Most of the ski resorts have closed this week-end, funny that.
Bulbs are popping up all over the place, hope they make it. (stupid flowers);hm

Its supposed to be 35 overnight. Its lingering this year or maybe I have been ready for the warm weather since February.
