Put the huskee down hill from the three white oaks I had to drop, and had the boys roll the rounds down to me. got about 3/4 done in three sessions. They only stayed for one and a half. They have a tough union rep (wife);)

Probably shoulda moved the small round lol..

You can see the carpenter ant damage in the round on the right

it was FULL of reproductive adults, too:mad:

Is it pizza hut time yet?

Way too put them to work Osage.......I split a red oak round today that was full of them critters. They took a shower in gasoline and those chunks are laying on the fire pit ready to burn.

Pizza Hut or 7-Eleven hot dogs were a delicacy when we worked with my dad. Usually got a samwhich and soda, and if we have worked real hard a Snickers bar.

My kids are just starting to get involved in the wood processing. Good times.

Great job Osage.

I use hornet and wasp killer on 'em.
Short squirt in their gallery tubes while still in the round.

Great way to spend time with the boys! Great pics and firewood and man do I hate carpenter ants!

Great work with the boys. They WILL remember these days later in life.
Instills a sense of accomplishment.
Besides, getting out in the woods is fun.
Pizza......mmmmmmmmm!

Cherish these times. My son, who has been my splitting partner since age three (now 12) chose the Xbox over splitting wood. Brought a little tear to my eye.

Osage, cherish those days with the boys. They will be great memories for later in life. Our last son left home in 1982 but I sure wish they'd come home once in a while to help with the wood. That would be sweet! On the other hand, it is difficult to ask them to work when they come for a visit.

Them boys got some good arms on them already

Yep! and they're figuring out after a long day of work the silverback is easier to gang up on.

It's amazing how much they eat. showing them these replies and they are very proud!

sure - I'll drop 'em off next time I visit my brother in Carlisle. (But you get the union rep also! :))

HA! I have a union rep, 2 of 'em would likely push me into early retirement.

Your sons should be proud, in fact, I'd go as far to say anybody pushin' oak rounds that size should likely be called a young man, not a boy :)

Yeah, that would not be allowed by my parents and will not be allowed by me here. When it is time to work, we all work. I hated splitting wood with my dad. Heck, hated cutting down the tree even. Now, I actually like it. At age 72, my dad has been bugging me all tax season about lining up some firewood.

A couple weeks ago, I said that once tax season is over I am going to sleep, ride my bike, go shooting and fishing, and hang out with the kids, and my dad added "and get some firewood". Now that I have 8 truckloads lined up, he is chomping at the bit to go and get it. I think he wants my yard to be the envy of the Firewood Hoarders Club.

Now, I cherish getting firewood with my dad. Good times, good times indeed.

Force your kids to get out there and do the work. They will thank you when they are 40, maybe sooner. Trust me on that one.
