Nice. Good find from Oregon. I've lived here all of my life, and never heard of Ben's.

I looked at it and they won't ship to here. Not like I need another wood stove. ;em

She told me they ship anywhere in the conus. The shopping cart shipping calculator doesn't work because of the weight. You have to call and get a shipping quote.

B'Bart - what is your final configuration recommended to new owners of NC-30, in terms of blocking ports, iron pig drain stopper thing, gap between cermaic sheets, etc.

I've read many of your threads on how you tried various things to get better control of burn time and burn rate, but I'm not completely sure on where you ended up.

Thx!

I do not recommend any alterations of the stove. Burn it like you bought it and see how it goes. What I have done step by step to fit my configuration and chimney setup is:

1. Blocked the two holes behind the front legs and removed the "doghouse" and replaced it with a piece of 304 stainless steel for consistent air distribution from the airwash back into the load.

2. Inserted a steel rod into a piece of 1/4" gasket rope and used that to fill the baffle gap by placing it on the left side of the baffle.

3. Calculated the percentage difference between my chimney height and the 15' chimney used in EPA testing and stove development and blocked off that percentage of the secondary air intake in the bottom back of the firebox.

Many, many people have done none of this stuff and love their 30 and get excellent performance from the stove. If you do this stuff you have to get right over closing the primary all the way down. You have to determine how much air to feed the fire since you have eliminated the unrestricted primary air input.

Well, I just pulled the trigger and ordered the 30NC from Ben's. $274 shipping to south/central Oregon (97603), so the total came out to $875ish. If your state does not have sales tax be sure to let them know. Call and ask for Tracey to get a shipping quote, then call again to actually order it.

HDs shipped price was $1000, so I saved a little bit. Other local place wanted $1099 for theirs.

FWIW - I've had very good luck just doing BB's #2. Burned all winter last year with split orientation E/W.

Yeah that is one exception. I highly recommend.

The 'other local place' (Diamond Home Improvement in Klamath Falls OR) just put the Summers Heat 50-SNC30 on sale for $829. Looked like they had about 10 on the floor on pallets. Would have been nice to know before I had one shipped from Michigan ;lol

Edit: I'm a maroon ;em They had the wrong tag sitting on them a few days ago. The 30 is $1149.

Wow. Had to dig a bit to get this old thread going again. But welcome to the forum Hoozie.

Bump for highbeam.

Thanks Mellow, trying to get a shipping quote from HD to my home or to one of their stores. Seems odd to me that I should pay them to ship their product to their store.
