What a difference a year makes! Today marks the 3rd time we've brought extra wood to the house. Last October we put 2 1/2 cord in the barn thinking that might get us through. Not so this year. If this keeps up we may be up to 3 cord again for the season.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Just looked at the forecast and we may see 70 degrees next week! Hooray!

Right on Dennis I can't wait either my friend !

We'll be burning a bit here for the next couple days. I'm taking the opportunity to get rid of an abundance of small stuff I've got. Not really sure how much we've burned this year, maybe two cords. More than last year, that's for sure!

Just brought some in as well to knock off the chill and dry out the rainy moisture.

Yep same here, just lit the stove to nock the chill and dampness out. Possible snow rain mix in the forecast last time I looked. Let the stove burn out last night as I needed to empty ashes.

I'm shorting up the wood rack in the garage.....real short.....time to switch the snowblower in the garage for the bikes....I hope:rolleyes:

Dennis - I have been bringing in the uglies off the top of my stacks one and two wheelbarrow loads at a time and I think I have myself covered to get into next week - at which time I am commiting to shut it down.(although I have been known to break my personal commitments if necessary) It snowed here yesterday!!

Just started a fire this morning but I do believe the end is near!!

Winter is still holding on here, some strong winds with rain last night when the cold front moved in. Had some pine ready but never built a fire, the morning fire felt even better with that cup of coffee.

Two year old seasoned pine is much better than one.

Still getting below 0::F overnight. I'll end up using more than expected this winter, but I used less than expected last year so I guess it evens out in the long run.
40-ish, windy, and damp......fire is on.
I expect at least 2 more weeks if the forecast is even close.
You're right Dennis, calling for 70 and partly sunny on Sunday.

That warm will certainly be welcome. I'll probably start a small fire within the next hour or two.

Sure seems good to see the sun shinning. Seems we get so little of it during winter and spring.

Dennis, just for my planning purposes, how many sq ft are you heating there and how tight/insulated is the house?

I will be burning a (Charlie's) Fireview next season as a replacement for my Smoke Dragon and I'm looking forward to more warmth. This past year I went through about 3.5 cord in my ~2000sq ft cape with most of the heating coming from the finished basement. I'd only get the smoke dragon going on the main floor when it dropped below 20'F or was quite windy to boot.

Now with the new Fireview in my living room I'll have that puppy going 24X7 and the basement only when I am feeling like over achieving. That will take decrease the overall sq footage being heated too. I'll be down to about ~1500 sq ft. Perfect for the Fv I would think.

Real excited!!

.time to switch the snowblower in the garage for the bikes.

BB you better got out on those bikes! I've been chalking miles for a couple weeks at least! But it has been a cold Spring.

...course my bikes got motors and do 60mph pretty easily.

I've brought a couple extra arm loads up to the house this spring too. The snow removal stuff is off the tractors, the big wood rack is off the front porch, and I've already cut the grass once, but I don't think we're done with the stove just yet.

Hang in there pal, not too much longer now. we have been in the high 60s this week and goes down to the mid to upper 40s in the overnight.

Did a little yard cleanup and limbing today. Really windy, then the snow squall started.
I put everything away and made dinner instead.
Yeah same here this a.m. Just about to start the day, walk the dog, next thing you know -flurries. Only lasted an hour but just enough to turn the lawns white again and make me dig out the snow brush to clean off the truck.

no, no, no no,....those bikes are for getting around the campground, not for excercise.....never been into motorcycles....my brother loves his Gold Wing and goes everywhere with it. He has been on me to go to Americade in Lake George NY.....he thinks if I go, I'll get bit by the bug, and buy a "real" bike

I've been bringing a wheelbarrow full in to the garage as needed. I usually just pull off the stacks this time of year but the rain keeps coming. I'm pretty much done with the cold at this point. Woke up to another 30* morning requiring me to scrap ice off the windows of my car! ;hm

Real excited!!

We're somewhere between 1300-1400 sq ft. House is now relatively tight because we put in a lot of new insulation all around and up top. New windows helped a lot.

What really still amazes me is we used to heat less space than this using around 6 cord per winter and we were never as warm as we'd liked. In fact, many times we'd close most of the house, placed the kitchen table right next to the stove and also had to use an electric heater when we took showers. We were cold all winter. I do remember one winter when we went through roughly 7 1/2 cord of wood but that was an unusual winter. I also not so fondly recall cleaning our chimney 3-4 times each winter.

So with this in mind and realizing we had an Ashley before our Fireview, you can easily imagine me laughing the first time I saw how small the Fireview is. I didn't think there was any way on God's Green Earth that stove would heat our old drafty crate. Long story short, we bought and were really amazed. We went from 6 cord to 3 cord. One winter, a year ago, we used only about 2 cord but again, that was an unusual year. This year it appears we may be between 2 1/2 and 2 3/4 of a cord.

The amazing thing is we are heating so much more space and keeping it 80+ degrees all winter. In the six winters we've burned in this stove we have cleaned our chimney once and it really did not need cleaning then. We might run a brush up there this spring but I haven't looked at it lately so that is to be determined.

Good luck and I think you too will be surprised and very happy with the Fireview.

We usually burn about 2 1/2 cords ["real" cords] in a year, including some during the warmer months for occasional baking. This season will see us having used another 1/2 cord +. May can be cold and wet here, and with 60-70 yr. records broken for cold in April, we'll probably be burning a bunch more. [note: still waking to temp's in the teens, though it gets nice by mid-day. Two below zero two weeks back, one morning, and a couple other a.m.s around ten above.] Come to think of it, we might go 3 cords this time.... Fortunately, I have seven more cords out there, most of it seasoned. But I'll be cutting more this summer than I had anticipated.

I probably burned 3 cords or so and have a small fire going right now.. I decided to test the dry locust just dropped yesterday and it is good and dry.. Pretty awesome considering this tree was just cut up before delivery!

All that and it is a beautiful stove to look at too! I'm all excited to start heating the room I spend most of my time in. Plus I've got quite an open floor plan so I'll be burning much more efficiently.
