Yesterday I came home to the sound of a brush chipper one block away. I checked it out and a tree service was dropping a large American Sycamore. I asked the foreman if I could have the large branches and he said fine. After dropping the bulk of the tree they told me they would be back in the morning to cut in up in 3' sections for me. I came back an hour later, spoke to the home owner and they told me they would be glad for me to have the wood. Well, the tree service never showed today. Question: Should I tell the home owner I will come by and cut the rest myself and take it away or do you think they will feel cheated by the tree service for not doing there job? I'm willing but don't want to aggravate the home owner..Thoughts........

answer: YOU call the tree service company and ask when they will be cutting it up in 3' sections as they stated because you cannot remove it until thats been done. If they say NO then let them know you cannot take it and when they will return to complete the job so you can let your neighbor know... if they say NO.... then grab your saw and handle it... after you have handled it talk to your neighbor and explain how that tree company swindled and took advantage... neighbors are very important so just make sure it gets done (nothing is worth upsetting neighbors who we rely on and befriend and trust).

The tree service has already failed to meet their commitment, you get to ride in and make it all better. Be sure to wear your white hat.;)

Yea
Talk to both.
Find out why they didn't show.
Worst is you have to go cut it yourself to be a friendly neighbor.

Because of your last sentence, I would first talk to the home owner. Perhaps they will call the tree service and they really are the ones who need to contact them if the job was not completed.

UPDATE..........Talked to the neighbor. She told me they did not call her to tell her when they would return. I told her to give them a fair chance, they just might be real busy. She said if it was still there by Saturday.. I can come over in the morning and cut away!!!!!:) Oh ya...she was grateful for my offer to take care of it for her.

You're "Hero status" now :)

If it is just the log that is left I wouldn't worry about cutting it. If they left any other debris that you don't want I wouldn't work on it, they need to come back and finish their job.

I'm hoping they do return and cut it up. That would be ideal. Then I could just load and go..
