My secondary stove is a 79' jotul 602. I use it as a supplemental stove when the temps dip below 15 deg. This year I relied on the 602 a lot more than the Previous years. What I'm looking for is a similar style stove with some modern day requirements. EPA and longer burn times with the same heat output with the 14" splits.
 
The Englander VL17 is a nice affordable replacement consideration. Burn times won't be spectacular, maybe double the 602's from what folks are posting. or 4-6 hrs vs 2-3 hrs.

They are ok, though with less room in the firebox to accommodate the secondary rack. Neighbor down the road has had one for 5 yrs now and they still seem to like it.
 
Have you looked at the Woodstock Classic?
 
What about the 13?
 
The box stove style seems to fit the space in the rooms that it heats, and I like the style myself. I have seen the modern day 602 but have heard its weak in burn times and has suffered some hairline cracks just beyond the heat shields. My 79 has a rear panel crack as well but holds its ground.
 
Burn time would be a little short but the Jotul F100 is a sweet little stove to burn in. You might find a used one that somebody expected too much from burn time and heat wise.
 
I've been happily impressed with my Lopi Republic 1750. The firebox is about 2sq ft. It's rated for a maximum log length of 18 inches, but you can stretch that a bit.

We've been easily able to keep a fire burning overnight. The blower has been a bit of trouble (faulty thermostat), but I think we're in the process of having that resolved. We paid a little less than $1,900, but that included the troublesome blower and putting it on a pedestal.

Last week I purchased an old Jotul model 602. It has a flue collar of aprox 4.5". I found a stovepipe increaser that has a male end of 5" and female end of 6". The 5" crimped end will slide over the stove collar. Will this work and does anyone have a better suggestion for a connector? The stove I purchased can be seen on the used inventory page of this website www.hearthstoveandpatio.com Its a very nice looking stove. I'm just concerned with the small flue. Has anyone ever used one of these for wood burning? How well is the draw?

The classic is not being made at this time but one could special order one.

No, you want all the male ends pointing down to keep any creosote/condensation inside the pipe/stove.

may be functional but slipping a male end outside of a collar isn't generally recommended, solid fueled heaters are generally vented with pipe designed to fit male end down so that if any creosote runs back down the pipe it ends up inside of the firebox instead of on the outside where it could potentially ignite outside of the firebox
 
Hey southern, you need the metric to 6 inch adapter (125MM) jotul offers it prob have to order thru your nearest Jotul dealer.\\
