Still have my Fireview but need a bigger stove as my 1900 sq ft farm house could use a little more heat.. Fireview could work , but I don't feel like running it at 650 all the time, I'll be eating through some wood.. 550 STT has been the hottest it's seen... Just would like to get some feed back for a direction to go... I like both stoves... Will I miss the stone heat getting the Lopi? I wonder ;hm

I thought you already decided to get PH?

So let's talk about the differences. The Lopi is a dealer stove, not mail order. Front door only on Lopi, side door only on PH. 6 mpnth return deal on WS. Not certain but aren't burn times better (longer) on the Lopi. Steel lopi so lighter weight. Compared clearances? Firebox bigger on the lopi?

The longer burn time and better ability to lower heat output on the Lopi is a really big deal.

1900 SF should be easy for the fireview. Not sure why you need so much heat. Perhaps fixing the issue with heat loss may be wiser if you're concerned about wood consumption.

Have you seen the cape cod burning in person yet? Got a local dealer?
Have a local dealer about 20 minutes away.. He started the stove but it was from cruising by the time we left,, just some start up wood,, He actually showed us the self ignition work. I wouldn't want it anyways..

We have a laid up 1740 stone foundation which has some air leaks around the sill stones in spots.. Just have to start mortaring things up, but for the most part the basement stays around 45-50 all winter,, One thing I was going to do is install some reflectex bubble insulation under the old floors .. Don't want to spray foam in case we ever sell, all those old beams and flooring are in pretty good shape, same thing with spraying the laid up stone with foam... The Fireview listed a 1600 sq ft max heating capacity.. So I figure I'm pushing the stove.. As far as the Lopi, I have no idea on a longer burn time,, I think the boxes are pretty close..Clearances are a lot less on the sides of the Lopi and I believe the back too.

I just went through this. The Cape Cod is more $$ as I recall than a refurbished PH. My refurbished PH is great. Ultimately, I was going with either the PH or a Blaze King Princess, though I considered the Cape Cod as well. The PH will surely heat your 1900 sq. ft. I like the cooking features of the PH as well. I don't have anything to say about the Lopi as I've never owned one. But my reading of many many reviews seemed to indicate that PH owners were extremely happy. Maybe it is an illogical cult following based on fantasy and feeling...but nonetheless, happy is happy.

I don't recall any reports of longer burn times with the Lopi. All I remember was easy 12 hours which is similiar to the PH.

I don't know if you would, but I know I would! Some people that have had steel, cast, and stone stoves don't notice much difference. I've had all three, and greatly prefer the stone.

If they both work equally well on your hearth, I don't think you can go wrong with either. If you want to cook on your stove, the PH is great. I don't think you could cook on the Lopi since it has a convection deck on top. I don't know if you'd need to run the blower with the Lopi or not, but that's another consideration. I personally hate blowers, but that's just me.

Good luck!

That's what I was wondering,, how well the Lopi heats without the blower going.. I can tell you I had the same blower on a Country S210 stove years ago,, boy that thing moved some heat and yet was very quiet when you slowed it down... I do like the stone heat,,, even if the stove has been down to coals for hours,, you can still feel the heat presence of the stone anytime you walk into the stove room..pretty nice..

Heck, wait for the new stove. If nothing else, there will prolly be some good deals on a few PHs.

The country 210 that you mention, it has a huge axial fan on the rear. That fan style is great at quietly flowing lots of air. Most stoves these days use a squirrel cage fan which isn't as quiet. I don't like the noise but at least with the BK (a pair of axials) they make a significant difference in output when you really need it.

You'll need to find owners. Webbie is a forum member here that has posted lots of pictures and seems impressed with the lopi.

Oh and no fair comparing used PH prices to new Lopi prices.

Since going to a cat stove, I no longer value the thermal mass of stone. It just doesn't matter if the stove stays warm for a few hours after the fire dies if you fire lasts three times as long. A hot fire in a steel box is at least as warm as hot stones without a fire.

Unless you need a stove now, I would also consider waiting to see the new WS stove. I expect them to build on the PH and make some improvements.

Ouch!!! 3600$ plus shipping for the PH. They have a 400$ off sale right now though.

Woodstock is allowing me to trade my Fireview back in for a full refund,, so the difference to step up will actually be less then if I sold my stove out right and bought a Lopi CC. My fireview was 9 months old when I decided to change it out.. even though I burned it for 6 months,, Woodstock took good care of me.. I appreciate that!

I have mentioned this several times before, I am heating 2200 square feet with the Cod and do not have the blower. It heats great without the blower. So I hear, the blower is very effective and quite, unlike the squirrel cage type blowers that other stoves use. You cannot cook on top of it because of the convection deck. It gets 12 hour burns consistently, more if I use all Oak.

That's why I couldn't figure out why this was being discussed again. With a full refund it seems like a no brainer to me.

Well the Lopi just caught my eye and seeing in person really sparked my interest... I had my stove sold but then Woodstock contacted me to find out if I was unhappy with them or their stove once I posted I was selling it.. That's when the full refund offer came about... So yes that was a no brainer but at the same time I was still thinking Lopi! I think the Lopi almost looks like the PH.

That's the same fan that's on the Lopi CC.. I know that thing throws out the heat, yet quiet..

Steel lopi so lighter weight.
The Cape Cod is actually Cast Iron. It has some heavy steel inside around the cat. It weighs 600 pounds, it's lighter than the PH, but it's one heavy stove!
The only thing that should be heavier is the baffle, it's made from thinner SS. Mine sprung in the corner, I took it out and straightened it. So far so good. Lopi is supposed to be working on a fix for the problem.

Good to hear! Just looking for some feed back,, thanks...

For me it would boil down to one thing since I think both stoves are capable heaters. Are you heating an open floor plan or not? If you house is older I'm guessing you're heating a bunch of rooms? For me a convection stove with a blower is the way to go.

My Lopi Endeavor had an awesome convection design. Suck the air in the bottom, around the back and out the step top, did an awesome job moving air with or without the blower. If I could get that design with a BK firebox life would be good.

rdust,
We are heating a re-insulated and framed 1840 farmhouse,, so no open floor plan here .. 7 rooms on the first floor. 1900 sq ft total... I'm wondering if anyone else is heating a home similar to my layout with a Progress Hybrid.

That's what I figured since most old houses have many rooms. I'm thinking a convection type stove with a blower will work better than a radiant stove for your layout. Obviously you'll have some natural convection even with the radiant stove, I have a feeling the Lopi will move the heat around better in your install.
