Feeling the Heat

Well it's been a busy last month but I'm finally almost done splitting and stacking the CL score that was dropped off to me. The left 2 stacks are Norway maple and the 4 next to that are silver maple. The 3 on the right are mixed ash, mulberry, locust and sugar maple. I also have around 5.5 cords in the front yard covered and seasoning for this winter. What's laying on the ground is what I have left to split yet. Its about 14 cords CCS and should put me close to 15 cords all said and done! Man I never thought I'd be able to get this far ahead!!! It is a great feeling and I must thank you guys for getting me started. I might just try for one more cord to put me into the next level of Scotty's Firewood Hoarders Club LTD!

Looks good. That has to be a good feeling knowing your ahead.

Looks great, nice and clean...

nice stacks and pics

I know...nice lawn, I was thinking that too. Honeybees love white clover. To buy the seed is expensive. It would kind of hurt to lay pallets down on it. Im gonna try the same thing as you did. Seperate cutting times and seperate species, that way when you are burning you can target the light wood then heavy. And use pallets like you did.
And when you replenish you just fill in.
You are lucky you got it all done before the best heat of the drying season.

WOWSER WOWSER ! !
Very impressive.
Knowing the work it takes to get to where you are, Good Job !

Great location, off the ground, spaced to breath
You are in the top 10% of "wood seasoners" (if there is such a thing) :)

Darn good looking collection of fuel there. One of your rewards for all the effort that went into it - you get to wander around those neat stacks and feel really good about being far ahead. Most of us know what it takes (lotsa work!) to get there. Good Job!

Thanks guys!! It is extremely rewarding considering I started with nothing last September. I got some lucky breaks with the hoarding thanks to a little persistence. Seeing everyone else's stacks on here was a huge motivator! The best part is waiting too see how much better the wood is going to burn each season from here on out!!

You'll notice a big difference.
Then when you get some 3 year seasoned dry wood, "WaaLa"
Almost lights itself & cleans the chimney at the same time! LOL :)

Well I finally got the rest of the wood cut, split and stacked this weekend. Measured it all up and comes out to 15 cords total. Might be picking up a few truck loads of locust in the next few weeks. Feels soooo good to be ahead!!

And may I ask WHY you haven't reported to any recent meetings of the Firewood Hoarder's Club, hmm? You OBVIOUSLY have a severe, er, problem, here......;)

Awesome stacks, awesome backyard....I've been watching you progress since you joined last fall and you've become a valuable member here..... keep up the good work.

Thanks Scotty! I'll try to make an appearance to the club soon. I never thought i'd be able to get as far ahead as i am but now I can't wait to keep adding to my stash!! I've learned so much from you guys and can't wait to start reaping the benefits from all the hard work. My fiancé and friends all agree that I have a problem... I keep telling them they're just jealous they are not part of the club. Glad I found a place among friends!

Oh and thanks to you guys I can now identify what types of trees are in my yard! My friends really start thinking I'm crazy when I start drooling over the types of trees at the golf coarse and wondering what they are gonna do with the dead ones!!! I pretty much never stop looking for wood now... Yep I'm an addict ;)

Nice work!

I too am a big fan of scrounging, I paid for "seasoned" firewood once, never again, I got burnt on that one <roll eyes at bad pun>.

Something else to add to your scrounging is treated pine to use instead of pallets for stacking on, they don't rot, you just lay them railway track style where you want the stacked wood, and they give you an edge you can line-trim against if you prefer that instead of poisoning grass (I'm not against poisoning grass, but my wife is, so I line-trim my stacks and maintain harmony).
