These rounds were just begging to be split. We borrowed a neighbor's Speeco 22-ton machine, vertical method. IMG_20130616_110305_294-1.jpg IMG_20130616_110342_049-1.jpg
So then the piles of splits laying around looked odd. They had to be stacked. The weather cooperated very nicely.

The stacked ash came out to a bit over 1.5 cords. It will be usable for winter 2014-15, I believe.IMG_20130630_184755_881-1.jpg

I have never seen ash split so stringy as this stuff did.

Man, that's some clean-lookin' wood right there! '14-'15 that stuff will be ringing like a bell.
Looks a bit stringy, but not bad....

I cut down a big silver maple trunk the other day (it was standing dead), and split it....gave the whole truckful to my brother, for his firepit....
We've been battling downpours every 4 hours or so, and I mean DOWNPOURS.......rains like crazy for a half hour or so. So I didn't do any splitting on my own stuff this weekend.

That ash looks great, that's a fair amount of wood! I believe it'll be ready to go for '14/'15, no problem.....

Looks good Gark. I have to come out of retirement tomorrow or Tuesday and cut up a silver maple that the farmer pushed over. I hate cutting this time of year but just can't let him burn this tree and he will if I don't get it.

Field Ash is tough & stringy in my area but burns a long time. Nice work on those stacks !

Those stacks look great! And I agree by 2014-2015 that wood should be more than ready.

Awesome stacks & great looking wood.
Must have something to do with splitting it vertical LOL :)

Good Job!

Nice work; ash is awesome!

Nice work Gark.

Awesome. Love that Ash. That rubber roofing is exactly how I do mine. Can't imagine anything working better.....
