Two years ago we had our property, which is basically all woods, logged. The trees were so thick in some areas that sunlight was never getting to the the ground. This generated massive amounts of firewood and greatly improved the health of the woods. (We hired a forestry consultant to select which trees should go. He also handled the sale of the timber.) A negative effect of this is now in the summer the woods becomes so thick with giant weeds that you can't walk anywhere except on the trails. And, it's a lot of work to keep these giant weeds from taking over the trails. Anyone had experience with this and how to control and/or eliminate this problem. I don't want the ground to be like the lawn but I would like to be able to walk thru the woods in the summer time. Thanks

The logging was done in August, 2005. We have just a little over ten acres. I don't know what you mean by type of logging. I know the forestry consultant made sure there was minimal damage to the remaining trees and they cut only what they were supposed to cut.

It was one logger and another man on a skidder. I mistyped the acerage in my earlier post, it's a little over "10" acres. I don't forsee logging again on this property, at least during my lifetime. I just want to be able to enjoy the more of the woods, more often.

Your correct in saying you would like to spend some time enjoying your woods. But I've found, that a woods isn't necessairly the best place to spend time during the summer months. The mospuitos, gnats, ticks, etc, are all too abundant to my liking. Believe me, I keep learning the hard way each summer. After a good frost, up to menorial day weekend, are the best time to spend in the woods.
