WP_20130807_006.jpgWP_20130807_005.jpgWP_20130807_009.jpg Hello all, just a little bit of wood porn for you all. The long stack on the left, is 4 rows wide, and was C/C/S November '12. That'll be this years wood, and probably most of 14/15. It is mostly Ash, with a little cherry and black locust from the hurricane last year. The ash and cherry is reading around 15%, which i'm very excited about, but the BL, which is in the middle, is in the 30%'s. (i'm thinking just because its in the middle and not getting alot of sun/wind.) Oh well, guess I'll just have to pic around it and wait until next year. Quite wet when i was splitting it.

The empty pallets with one row is what i went through last year, basically my first year burning. There was 5 rows there. I told myself in the spring to get that refilled ASAP so i could get 3 years ahead, and give that wood two full summers to dry, but what do you know, it August and I just finished the first row...crap...time to get splitting fast! Time flies.

I bring all my wood in from my buddies house a pickup truck load at a time about 15 min away who has a outside boiler. We cut and split about 12 cords a year in the fall for him for that winter with a splitter, and basically he tells me "take what you need" because I help him. Usually, I'll just bring rounds home and split them on my own time because splitting ash with the X27 is fun for me. Id like to get a log truck delivery at some point in the next few years, but I'd like to keep that area neat because its right next to my driveway, and with all the sawdust i'm thinking, wishful thinking.

Really close to the road and easy pick'in for someone who wants to take the risk. It happens around here.
Nice stacks that should keep warm this winter.

yes very close. Only spot on the property that has good acces to unload, then load in the garage when time to burn. Thats too bad that it happens, hasn't happend to me yet, but when it does, i'm ready....someone is always watching :)

Yup....somebody has been busy.....looks great, and a good selection:cool:

Nice looking stacks, great work!

Very nice! Nice that buddies are helping each other too.

As for the log loads and the sawdust, that should be easy to deal with. Best way I can think of is for the logger to lay down a couple logs to stack the rest on. If you are there, before he stacks the rest of the load on those two that are running the other way, you could lay down a tarp to catch the sawdust when you cut. Or, you could make your own and then roll a log to a time onto it so that all the sawdust is basically in just that one area.

On the other hand, it isn't too difficult to use a scoop shovel or even a gravel shovel to load the sawdust into a wheelbarrow or a bag. Of course at the end you'll have to use a rake to finish the task but it won't be difficult.

Sweet!

I have stack envy...

Those stacks are looking good! Whole lot of heat right there. Great work.

Was this live wood or dead standing? When testing the MC, you re-split and tested on a fresh face, right?

I think anyone would be jelous driving by seeing those stacks. My wife thinks I'm an idiot because everytime I see someone's stack from the road I have to comment on it. You'd definitely get a positive review!

Thanks guys!! I've actually had some people recently stop by and ask me how much I sell my cord wood for! And a few stop to take pictures when i'm out there. I just yell to them "it's not THAT much wood!!"

Thanks backwoods, i'll think about that. Usually I just rake up the dust, and I have an old electric leaf blower that i use afterwards. But 8-10 cord of bucking will produce ALOT of chips!

Woody, the ash fell victim to the bug disease, so i guess you could say dead standing?? Split, then moisture was read. I'm really surprised the BL hasn't been drying as well as the cherry and ash.
