WOW!!!
Couldnt have happened to nicer folks. I feel very bad for them.

JAFFREY — Billows of smoke and a few flames were still rising from the charred ruins of the Heart Line Stove Shop at 261 North St. in Jaffrey this morning — two hours after firefighters reached the blaze.

The fire, reported at 4:50 a.m., destroyed the roughly 4,000-square-foot building.

A Peterborough firefighter suffered minor injuries when he slipped on some ice, but he refused medical treatment, according to Jaffrey Fire Chief David M. Chamberlain.

The shop, owned by Larry D. Miller, sells gas, coal, wood and wood pellet stoves, and has been in business for more than 15 years.

When firefighters arrived, flames were rising through the roof near the rear of the building, Chamberlain said. It took about 90 minutes to get the fire under control, he said.

About 50 to 60 firefighters from the Monadnock Region responded to the fire, he said.

Chamberlain said the cause of the fire is still undetermined, but so far it doesn’t seem suspicious.

He estimated the damage to be at least $300,000, but said that number is based on the value of the building, a former sawmill with sheet metal siding.

The Millers, who live across the street from the building, declined to comment this morning.

Firefighters from Rindge, Peterborough, Troy, Fitzwilliam, Dublin, Hancock, Harrisville, New Ipswich and Winchendon, Mass., responded to the fire.

Chamberlain said black ice on the roads early this morning delayed firefighters by a few minutes.

When they arrived, a priority was to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby warehouse where a truck and some equipment were located, he said.

Oh man, that's awful!

My thoughts are with you guys, if you're watching!

At least its only property and one minor injury. Sure hope it wasn't a chimney fire!

Sad story.

I sure hope the tin foil folks over at BI dont get wind of this, they'll have a field day

OUCH...Fairly close to home. Was that the stove place right next to the river? Or am I thinking of another one in NH??? I'm trying to remember this place...

yeah, totally unfortunate.....I guess thats why we all have insurance! Larry Miller is a heck of a guy too....

Im also told, fortunately, that he didnt lose all inventory and such, much of his inventory was stored in a storage bin, not in the fire.

My condolences to Larry and his family and co-workers.

I can only hope that the Millers were properly insured and that they can rebuild. My thoughts are with them as they have a struggle ahead but like the Phoenix they can rise from the ashes.

Good luck and get well to the fire fighter.

That's too bad. Thank God that no one was seriously hurt or killed. I hope they can re-build.

That's a shame. Noone was hurt, that''s the main thing. Also, the fire occurred towards the end of the season, so their business income shouldn't be disrupted too badly, especially because their property insurance should have business interruption coverage. Also, we are coming into weather that is favorable for construction so perhaps they can rebuild quickly.

This is terrible news. I hope they will be okay and can recover. This is one of my greatest fears, that we'll have a fire. We don't own our building are are not the only tenents. A chinese restaurant is next door. Our warehouse is also off site. Maybe this will be what helps them get back quickly. My condolences to the Millers.

Hey you know what.

THEY WERE OPEN FOR BUSINESS THE NEXT DAY.

That goes a LONG way with me.
