Lancashire NW England.
Went on a cruise last week to the Norwegian Fjords, came across this guy in the mountains splitting Birch.
Had an interesting set up on his tractor for cutting and splitting.

Cool.
The last pic looks suspiciously like Geiranger Fjord.

Part of my family comes from a now abandoned world heritage protected austere farm on sunnylvsfjorden.

Later moved to Aalesund and another part of family from Flem Island.

Yes you're right Billb3, it is Geiranger, what a beautiful place.
Went with my sons and eldests girlfriend.
Were driven up to the glacier and cycled all the way back down, was an amazing experience.
Some of the farms on the mountain sides were so remote, must be very tough in winter.
Got more great photos.

Those are some serious tire chains on his tractor. They must have some very wet areas over there.

Thanks Dennis,
I thought they must be snow chains and he hadn't taken them off, makes more sense for wet areas, waterfalls everywhere, was an amazing place.
The guide who drove us up to the glacier told us there are only 300 people live there in winter and they get 300,000 tourists in summer !.

That's a big circular saw on the tractor. They cut their rounds to 1 meter lengths, split them,. then cut the splits to stove length, or something like that. How does he split it?

Looks like they use the old buzz saws over in Europe, too! There was a post about those saws just a few weeks or so ago on here.
Awesome pictures, Billy.....looks like my kind of place. Remote, rugged, and beautiful. I bet you guys had a great time, that cycling trip sounds like a blast!

Thanks for sharing the pics of your vacation, good to hear from you, haven't seen you on here much lately!

Not sure how he splits them, looks like they are split using tractor hydraulics, didn't pay much attention at the time, was talking to him about stoves.
Thought he would have a Jotul but surprise he had a Morso !.
