I burn only the good stuff .
around here the price is almost the same only 10$
bertween the good the bad and the ugly.

I have the good stuff for the majority of the season where the stove is running pretty much 24/7 (4 tons). For the shoulders I look for a ton to a ton and a half of pellets that feed slowly. Usually what the box stores have MWP, Greene Supremes are perfect for that. Its not necessarily to save money bit to save the stove from cycling on and off all the time.

I try to buy Somerset’s each year. Always have the next year’s pellets in the stash.
Just missed out on Somerset’s for next year stash uuurrrrr !!

I consider Pro Pellets to be premium ... I have bought a lot of somersets also. They both burn just as hot in the stove, but the Somersets are less ashy. So I chose the Pro Pellets and saved 35-40 a ton with same heat and a little more ash.

Anyone know who sells Somerset's in the CT area? Probably too late for this year but would be good to know for next year.

I have some Wood Pellet Co. left over paid 175.00 ton this year bought 3 ton of Hamers Hot Ones for 219.00 ton plus 60.00 for delivery. Most of the pellets where I live are close in price slightly over 200.00 per ton. This is only my second year with the stove.

Couldn't vote because so far this year the Big Box stuff (and you never know what it's gonna be) is almost the same price as the good stuff. Lowe's whatever brand they have is $237.50/ton

Just got back from the local fair and talked to the stove dealers Turman's $230/ton Hammer's $250/ton nothing ,but good stuff for me from my local Guys unless I see some Set's or Timber Heats at the big box ,but IMO these are also Good stuff;)

I buy was cheaper in my area which is normally lignetics green label... only $10/ton over shoulder.

I burn shoulder stuff - MWP last year ($173/ton) and this coming year ($192/ton) - at the beginning and end of the season. Also I will use the shoulder stuff during the warmer days in the middle of winter. I burn higher priced (but not top-of-the-line) stuff in colder weather when the stove is running more consistantly. I burned Lacretes my first year because I got a decent price and liked them alot. I got Spruce Points ($270/ton) last year because Lacretes were bigger $$$ and although they were better for me than MWP, I was dissappointed. Cubex has burned well for me in the past. Bottom line is this.- 2 tons of shoulder stuff, 1 ton of good stuff and about 1/2 ton of misc stuff that I grab 2-3 bags at a time looking for a hidden gem.

Bought a bunch of different pellets now and will only be buying either Somersets, or Greene Teams. As they can be had for under $200 a ton. (Somersets for $175 or GT's for about $190. Both are sale prices. But happen several times a year here in Oh).

I voted only burn the good stuff though. Even though I have not paid over $200 a Ton in over 4 yrs :)

I don't see the need to burn shoulder pellets, I try to get the hottest pellet for my $ and just not burn as much. Although this year it seems that all the "good stuff" is priced very high (>$250).

I think the fourth should read:
I burn nothing but the cheap stuff. I bought my stove model so I didn't have to be a pellet snob :p and to save money.

You could have bought a cheaper stove and saved even more???

I didn't know what one to pick because for me it's mostly based on the delivery factor. I need someone with a bobcat that can deliver on uneven ground then drive into a connex box/cargo container and then stack them 2 high cause I am to lazy to move and stack 5 or 6 ton by hand.;em Otherwise my "for now" USSC 6500 will burn anything I throw at it and it produces about the same results from what I have found.

This month I ended up buying 5 ton of energex from a local distributor @ $259.00 a ton + delivery because he is the only one with a bobcat that can deliver and stack like I need due to my laziness.

I am looking to buy one of Mike's refirbs from am-fm soon and install it closer to the end of my shop where it is needed more seeing that it has a smaller footprint than the 6500. I just hope the TRPAH 120 likes energex pellets!

This is what I picked ......Aren't Pellets all the same? I buy whats convenient/affordable. going with the convenient factor as the reason for that pick.

I haul all of my pellets myself and can only put about 33 bags or so in my truck at a time, and the box stores charge you more if you don't buy a ton at a time so I'm kind of forced to go to the stove shop and buy the good stuff.

after 6 mos as a new stove owner and member here , I stopped caring about other folks opinions and formulated my own :)

love reading all yours though :p

I only burn what I can pick up locally weather it's a shoulder or
top shelf. As I haul my own pellets which got a lot easier with the
new trailer.

I have big boxed it the last few years burning timber heats last year and stove chow before that all ok pellets but my most favorite season with the stove was the year I burned the curran softies so I want to pull the trigger on 4-5 ton of them they are 286.00 a ton at my local lumber dealer and they deliver with a boom truck so works out well I am going to shop around for other softies but I want to burn 100% softies this year to have less ash and hot hot heat cleaner stove in the end!!!

I guess I interpreted his comments differently. I too read all the comments about best pellet, hottest pellet, high ash, low ash, shoulder pellets, etc. But I bought a Harman so I wouldn't have to deal with all that. So in a sense, I formulated my own opinion as well. I typically burn the cheapest, decent pellet I can buy (MWP, FSU). If we're going to have a severe cold spell, I may buy 5 or 10 bags of "good" pellets, but the last time I did that I bought Cubex and didn't like them at all.
