When my dad built his house many years ago he insulated the crap out of the thing long before it was in style so to speak and he cannot emphasize enough how glad he is that they did it.

Kudos to your dad. Too bad the guy who built my house in town didn't share the same attitude / work ethic.

I'm tearing into the cathedral ceiling in the "old" side of my current renovation just to add more structure and insulation. My wife kinda thinks I'm nuts (we haven't been freezing, isn't this overkill, etc...) but a few days work now before we renovate this area will make us much more comfortable in the coming years.

Good luck with your new home.....

My main experience is with the Alderlea T5 - it heats our well-insulated, 1,700 sf, 3-level split with ease (stove on lowest level). When temps drop below zero we get an assist with a thru-wall fan and the furnace fan. It is a bit slower to heat up but prefer the trade off of getting longer lasting heat. If somebody wants quicker heat, have them sit in front of the glass door.
